Took the little one out to plunge into some wet fun early this morning. Low 40s. But quite a bit of water in the ditches. Tall grass had beau-coup dew on it, and my thighs were wet and cold. Saw two splashes, but Belle never got birdy. She was interested in a few places, but no flushes. First place is a beech to get to, an old field is easy going, but then there is a long high water table hillside. And hummocks. I H8te hummocks. Beat my way down to the flats, and it looks like the dogwood is going to take over the sedge... horaay! Woodcock like it when tall brush or trees shades out the ground.
Second place had been area flailed by the DNR, which in this case was good, as the growth was trashy elms and other brush. Saw one splash, and two college (?) kids out to see the sedge meadow. One had on athletic shoes, and I suggested that was not a good match for the standing water in the old trail ruts... They forged ahead... ah, youth... they will probably party all night and go all day...
