Lyman 311241 Plain base

May not be the most accurate .30 cal. plain base bullet that I shoot, but it does pretty good. I'll have a lot of fun at the range soon with these.
Was 60 degrees here today, thought that I needed to get outside with my casting table and cast a couple of hundred.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I would have to look but I think I have an old Ideal 308241 with integral handles, neat old mould in decent shape.

You inspired me today Ben! Trying to shoot the 311440 from my Handi-rifle in 7.62X39. Failure, so I'm going back to 308241 with the one piece handles. Cast up about 100 this afternoon. Scrap and will size to .311" with NRA lube, best I have found for this rifle. Ric

Is that one of those 7.62×39s with a proper chamber but a 308 groove ?
The correct groove is .310-312 . Might help groups if you have that .312-308 leade to have a little fill . But you probably already know that and tried it .

Yes it is. Therefore I re-throated it with a 0.310" by 3/4 degree reamer. Now it will take .310" cast bullets like the 31141 with just the bottom drive band in the neck.

Just checking occasionally the obvious sneaks by . Searching readers might not be aware of the one chamber three barrel 7.62/308 bucket of snakes .

The only problem I ever saw, that was verified, was shooting ChiCom 7.62x39 copper plated iron core bullets from steel cases. All lead core bullets or brass cased ammo, while pressure was greater than spec 42,000 cup, were less than what .243 Win pressures. But at least my Redding die set allows you to load either .308" or .311". And .308" bullets are cheaper, but not as cheap as cast.
