if you think about a reloading room as separate work stations it helps keep things simple and organized.
it will also help you decide where to put overhead lighting and electrical outlets.

Guys ...I got out of the sick bed this morning ( got the Flu!) to pick this baby up:
340A1.jpg
It is a near new Savage 340 (A -no SN #) 30-30 Very little shot with pristine bore & not much wear: Sometimes it pays to know how to play GunBrorker ( need to look at the Sellers feedbacks! before bidding) More then I wanted to spend @ $305 but I took a hunch on this one and was very surprised! Now I'm happy!
So I'm calling it my Christmas Present!

Looks almost new. Mine apparently is a bit unusual, it has a nice trigger as it came. Many have
complained that they are not normally endowed with a good trigger pull. How is yours?

That one would appear to be a safe queen.

Because of it's condition I don't think it was shot a whole lot. That being said; the trigger is rather heavy, I feel because of it's lack of use.
But I'm sure I'll break it in!:)

The two 340's I have owned, had checkering and high gloss. Jim, I suspect this is a plain model? or do you suppose it's been refinished?

I had a 222-D and a 223-E, the 222 had a horrible trigger pull and the 223 had a pretty nice one. I attempted to swap the trigger parts on the two rifles, but being a different series, they had a bit of a different shape. all the important parts lined up, so I was able to swap them, but the trigger was positioned differently on each, one far forward and the other far back...they both functioned, but I could barely get my finger in the 'far forward" one. SO I swapped the parts back.

JonB,
Savage did produce a line of 340E's I believe which had a gloss finish and impressed checkering.
See this link: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/610519806
It seems that these sell pricy!
The 340 A was the first Savage model after the Stevens 325 It was a real plain Jane but did have a real walnut stock

Jim,
WOW  that one is pricey. It's either WAY over priced, or someone got a smokin' great deal on my 223rem series E that sold on my auction in April 2015...I think the winning bid was around $275 (plus or minus $50).

4 yr ago I gave $150 for a 340D 222 and last winter I gave $200 for a 325C 30-30 with 2 magazines .

Nice 340! Brownells has replacement triggers. And yours is D&T'd for the Weaver side scope mount.

I have a 340C got recently. Not for Christmas. And posted elsewhere. $200 w/ a ~$500 piece of fancy wood. in 222 Rem and looks like it was set up for BR. Extra trigger guard screw and fully acraglas bedded. I put the Weaver side mount/rings on it and a Leupold VX1.

This was my Christmas to myself.

I am something of a lever gun fan and have been for a lot of my life. I just like them...in my opinion, they are the near epitome of form AND function. As such, I have Winchester, Marlin and Rossi levers...shoot them a lot and I am always looking at them on Gunbroker...almost daily. Well, back in Dec, I was looking around one night and I ran across this Mossberg 30/30...the starting bid was wholesale on the rifle and the auction would end mid morning the next day. So, I thought "What the heck"...and placed one bid, the starting bid. Low and behold, I checked the next day about lunch and found that I was the only bid...looked like I had a Mossberg. Got it in the week of Christmas...nice rifle, slick action, excellent fit and finish. I have only shot it 4rds...sights seemed to be close from the factory and functioned perfectly. I will get out and do some more extensive shooting maybe next week, but, for now, I am very satisfied...especially for $390 NIB total, shipping and FFL fee.

Bill, I will do a report as soon as I get to shoot it some more.

I will say now, it is a VERY light rifle...not sure how that will translate to durability...but, I won't prejudge it as I have read many positive reviews of these guns.
