I have decided I need a 45/70. An I need some help deciding which one. I have a Henry single shot reserved when they hit the market (June) . It is going to be 375$ out the deer. Yesterday I saw an add on gunbroker for a new in box CVA Hunter model 45/70. With shipping and my gun shop fee the total would be 300$.
The CVA has a 25" barrel with a 1 in 20 twist The Henry has a 22 or 24" barrel with a 1 in 20 twist.
How would you consider the CVA versus the Henry? Kevin

If it's going to bang around in a truck the cva might be a better choice. Been happy with the few we've had/have. The Henry is probably a better rifle though.

Yup the Henry was the way I was leaning.
Specially since I went to a gun auction today and spent a lot of the saved money.

that's gonna slow you down some.

I need another cast bullet hunting rifle like I need a poke in the eye.
but a 45/70 would have been about comforting to have last fall when we got in on that 6x6 Elk in the Dark Timber.
me and Littlegirl got within 50 yds before we seen part of him and another 10-12 yds closer before I had a clean shot.
he realized he wasn't alone about 2 seconds before it was too late.
we wouldn't have known where he was if he hadn't of been so love sick and busy just tearing the mountain up, he was within 100yds the first time we heard him start Bugling.
