I tried posting an Avatar ( at present I don't have one )

I tried a 200 X 150 , 8.80 KB

It said the file size was too large to be handled by the server.

What am I doing wrong ?

Ben, that is a server issue. It should be fixed soon, tech support is on it.

The style and format of the board will be changing some over time too. This is all a work in progress. If you have ideas please let me know.

That is not a problem for me.

I simply thought I was doing something wrong.

Patience is a virtue..............

Many thanks,

Images should now be working. The size limit should be 2 megabytes before it complains that it's too big.

Many Thanks Kevin,

That's my 98 ' Mauser 30-06 with " Double Sets " in my Avatar.
A fine rifle ! !

I did all the glass bedding and stock work on this one.

I thought that a bit of " eye candy " to go with your coffee this morning might be good ?

Ben

Damn fine looking rifle Ben. You do some awfully nice stock work.

Thanks for those nice remarks Brad.

People that have never actually built a rifle like this don't really realize just how many hours of labor can end up in a rifle like this.

Thanks again,
Ben

I built a few muzzle loaders from a pre carve stock and learned quickly that I lacked the patience for really good work.
There is a reason good stock work costs money, it takes lots of time.
I love that fact that lines needing to be straight are straight and curves are All a smooth curve.
It is the details that make the difference.

Thanks Kevin, much better background also. :)

Ben, what is the finish on the stock? Beautiful work, I sure do love a nice hunk of lumber. :D

Rick,

I'm a professional stock finisher, my own blend of stock finish is something I don't offer details on. ( A bit like asking Coke for the details in their formula for making Coke.)

I will say it has urathanes in it ( along with 3 other things ) to make it tough and resilient.

Well it sure is purty . . .

I've got s stock that is pretty desperate for some TLC but I'm not too sure it's not beyond hope of ever being purty.

Ben has seen these, I'm not a pro and I did this when I was a kid out of a dead black cherry tree on the homestead. My second checkering job ever, 22 lpi if I remember right, sure looks big in the picture but not in person.

The tang inletting is ugly on the right side, cherry wood has a tendency to chip and a big flake popped out, so it got filled in when I glassed the tang.

If you guys haven't seen Ben's portfolio, hassle him for the link, he does beautiful finish and repair work.

Let's try uploading one instead of linking to a photo hosting site....

OK! We're good. How much server space do we have for uploads? I assume not much without purchasing a ton of extra storage. Is is best just to host offsite and link?

Pros and cons to everything. I've limited the size of what can be uploaded, and it will resize down to that if you upload a larger size. That said, there's still a limit to how big of a file it will let you upload at all.

If you host elsewhere as long as that host is working, the images work and it saves space here. If you upload here, if this site is up the image works but it consumes server space here. So, there's no "perfect" answer.

Things that are on topic and important to the conversation are probably best put here. Off-topic humor stuff? Let someone else host that. :) It's not a hard and fast rule; my thought is the folks here are adults, and can use their judgement.

Thanks Kevin. Much better for me to upload images from my hard drive. Reducing file size is really easy and no problem for me. Most picture don't need to be full screen anyway. Picture was uploaded with "upload file" at bottom of window not from the image upload icon. Not a problem, just curiosity thing but hey, it's working. I'll try a .doc in a little while. I know that what Outpost75 is waiting on and I'm anxious to see what he has. :)
