New 300 Blackout

I recently got me a new 300 Blackout bolt action, I was at the local gun shop when a guy walked in with said rifle. He was going to accept a partial trade for a M&P 40. He was going to take a wash on the rifle, the shop was offering him $325.

I was interested because it was a snazzy looking rifle, I was told it is a custom build off a Howa 1500 223. It is a Shilen (no proof) contoured blank threaded 5/8-24, beautiful bluing, and fully bedded. He had pictures on his phone of groups he shot that measure in the 1/2" range with his handloads. The downside it it is a 1-10 twist, which isn't bad for cast and will do anything I need done.

I asked him if he wanted to entertain a straight trade on an M&P 45 and if he had a few minutes to wait around while I ran home and got the pistol. He was very interested in the trade. When I got back he was there we made a bargain. The shop was kinda bent thet they didn't get anything but a transfer, but such is life.

You hosed him alright, I got an M&P .45 with a new set of Trijicon sights and an Apex full-replacement trigger I'll swap you if you ever have trader's remorse.

1:10 is more than enough for your 235-grainers at 950+ fps. The barrel threads on that one look so, um, lonely.

I don't consider it a hosing, a hosing is trading that off and adding $250 cash for a stock M&P40 and buying the line "you never get your money back from a custom rifle, so I will do almost new price on that Howa". Mine had trijicon sights and 4 mags and I did pay the transfer fee. (I know, small potatoes) but if someone is going to be content with that lopsided of a sale they got a "deal" in a straight trade.

I can do math quick, and that Howa has an easy $750 in it, because the pic is how I got it. I need to get it to the range and see what it will do, it will accompany my other Remington 300 Blk.

I may remove the scope and mount, I would prefer a more streamline/compact scope setup. I am waiting on the Form 1 to come back for a solvent trap supressor, I fear it has a while because the check was sent off last month.

Technically it is a Weatherby vanguard, but I just call em Howa 1500's cause that's what they are. I need a trigger scale, I bet this thing isn't 3 lb.

Also, Ian, if I get bored I don't want anotber M&P 45 but that Marlin 336... you may tempt me with it... possibly...

Haha! No way man, she's stayin' with me!

If it makes you feel any better, I just got a 5320.1 back approved that I e-filed back in......wait for it.......JUNE. First week of June. Wait times will come way down after they get through processing the mid-July submissions, but for every week that goes by right now, two weeks are added to lead time and you can bet that will get a lot worse before they get through the next four weeks of pre-41P applications. The HPA might pass before you see any word on your can, either way you'll get it eventually and wonder how you ever did without one, or five....

That was the dumbest sale I ever made... one moment of weakness and I've never found another Marlin that shoots as good and looks as good...

I hope the HPA passes or the ATF reverses it's ruling on supressors soon. This rifle will see tons of use with a can, until then I plan to shoot tiny groups with cast bullets and smile with every pop of recoil.
