New BBl for my 112 Sav.

I shot my old 112 Sav. 223, well over 6000 rounds before accuracy became unacceptable for Pdogs. Mostly I shot 40-45 gr. Hor bullets. I seldom ever shot max loads in it. Decided to rebarrel it when the best it would do was just slightly under 2" at 100. Along the way, it had a few hundred cast thru it, that didn't count in my
jacketed total. Ordered a replacement bbl from Shaw, and got the kit for $215.00 shipped. I know I could replace the bbl myself, but elected to have a gunsmith do it. Looking forward to having the old girl shooting small groups and many pdogs this spring.

Shaw barrels have been good for me. The alloy steel ones like lots of cleaning between shots during break-in, but once they smooth up you're in business.

No. I got a .308, a .308 "accuracy" barrel, and a new .270 barrel for a buddy.

Paul,
Sounds nice! I have heard they make a nice barrel....Pretty good price.
Savage barrels are pretty easy to swap out you can set the head space from a fired cartridge

The E.R. Shaw kits come with go and no-go gauges. The trick to installing the barrels is to have an action wrench fixed in a vise, a barrel wrench, and the barrel nut wrench so that you can hold the barrel still while torquing the nut. I think most of us attempt this without the barrel wrench, which makes it a trial and error thing to roll the barrel and nut into place at the correct torque and headspace. I can see why Paul would opt to have his gunsmith do it, it's really simple if you already have $300 worth of tools and some powdered rosin handy as part of a day's work.

I have actually used a blue-tip wrench to remove a Savage barrel once. Damned steel shot packed under the nut flange.
