New Pistol loads

Look what just came home with me! I have searched all my books and powder manufacturer's web sites and I am having trouble finding exact load data that I am comfortable with. My Lyman Cast Bullet #4 seems best and I am hoping you will share your results. -- I will not be loading near the top of these loads. --

I am using brand new Winchester Brass and they are 1.28" long.
I have cast Lee 429-200-RNFP cast bullets and they are .598" long (powder coated)
When seated to the crimp grove the OAL is 1.55" long meaning that .328" of the bullet is in the case.
I am using regular Federal large pistol primers.
I have IMR4227, Alliant 2400, Hodgdon HS-6 and Hodgdon 800-X (also have Alliant Sport Pistol)

Even though Lee says that these are 200 grain I weigh them at 210 grains

Will I be OK starting low and working up?

Thanks
Francis

I think Rugers RedHawk is one of the the toughest production 44 Mags on the market.
It will certainly handle any load listed there.
Yes, start low and work up.
Each gun has it`s own limits.

If you are looking at mid range loads I would use the HS-6. The 4227 and 2400 will be far happier towards the top end loads, particularly with a 200 gr bullet.

Allianz lists a load for a 200 gr lead bullet with Sport Pistol, it would be a good one too. Just start low and work up like normal.

Conserve powder and start in the middle of the load data. Not going to hurt that RH. I've owned one since they first came out. Never was a fan of light for caliber bullets or the heavies, for that matter. I lean towards 240's, 250's and 265 grain bullets. The problem with light for caliber, they shoot low. The heavies shoot too high. I'm not a looking to be constantly changing sight settings............then having to remember what the gun is sighted in for.

I shot many of the old Keith load, in my RH, no worst for wear. Twenty two grains of 2400, magnum primed (back then) with a 240 cast bullet.

Hercules/Alliant 2400 is pretty much all I use in my 44 mags.............lost count of how many 8 pound jugs, I've went through.
