Boring story first .
A week or so ago a guy on a totally unrelated forum asked about a set of 223 dies to help another guy out that's been reloading but 223/556 was just so cheap and available ....... I had a Lee set and a few extra rounds loaded but I also thought I had another set . I have tried to replace the Lee dies bought in lean/tough/ebb market times with RCBS etc under market value , opportunity , dies and sets especially where I might need to neck down to get what I need . After digging everywhere all I had was a neck size set .......odd in 223 but 3/4 share brass so whatever .
I've never seen an RCBS like this one with a cone compression lock on a slick decapping rod with a small headed pin expander ball . I think it's probably a special set die if it is factory , it may be a bored machinist with a broken pin solution .
It has wrench flats on the die body that are polished and not consistent with the finish . The B nut is concave to the wedge cone is one piece and a moderate friction fit on the rod with a single split cut .
It's neat if it works better than the Lee system and readily replaced with the standard parts or similar if it's too bad .
Anyone seen one of these ? Any guesses of which set it might have been with ? SB AR maybe ?
