if you see some accurate 4100 or some ramshot enforcer [same powder different package] give them a go with your normal 2400 load.
it's usually within 1/2 grain.

I got a bunch from Dick Casull [labeled C-1380] a couple of years ago and stuck it away and all but forgetting about it until this last crunch.
I was rearranging stuff a while back and seen the fiber drum tucked back in the closet under 10-K wolf SR primers.
and decided to dig it out and give it a try in a few things.
I used 2400 data from hornady in the 300 bo cutting the middle load of 17.5 grs down to 17grs and come back up stopping at 17.5 grs [liked the accuracy] but the velocity was within 25 fps of the 2400 data.
as I compared more and more data between them cutting down by 1/2grain usually gives super similar results between it and 2400 at the middle to upper end.
and the steps chase each other as you go, so it's as predictable and stable.
it is a smaller grained powder than 2400 which would explain why but it meters like water through just about any powder dump out there.

On my quest for finding a good substitute for sr4759, reloader7 has been the closest for me. I have shot a fair bit of 5744 and it does work fairly well, but not near as good as the reloader 7. I have had pretty good luck with unique, but I find it almost as hard to find as 2400.
Once again I will throw this in, a -10% to a start load of your favorite jacketed powder has worked well for me in the past. I had some odds and ends of powders and ran several through my TC 30-30 and Marlin Ballard rifled 30-30. Speeds and accuracy were good to excellent. My Marlin load is a dose of H335 now.

I would have to dig through a pile of notes to see what the last powder and bullet combo was that I ran through my 03.

QS, have you annealed your brass? I was gifted several buckets of 06 brass and it had age hardened and was cracking at the neck and shoulder. Annealed and all is well.

Fiver thanks for the information on 4100 and Enforcer. Do either of those powders not like to be downloaded like 110/ 296?

JSH....as soon as I get a split neck in a batch I will anneal....but then again some of my cases are 54WRA...THAT I HAVE USED SINCE 66.

I pay more attention to case lenght..Dan

Dan,

You're killing me with all these good shooting 1903's! I have a batch of DEN brass that is 1942/1943 headstamp, heck I even have a few pieces of Peters 1927 brass. You are right, with these low end loads it is more important to watch length than annealing, I also anneal when I get a split or 2 in a batch.

i make that DEN 43 stuff right into 7.65 argie brass.
one sizing and a trim no fuss no muss.

Kevin.
i haven't seen it not download yet.
but i haven't seen any data backing it up either.
accurate is super good about helping with questions like that if you don't wanna wing it on your own.
i have only given it a couple of test shots here and there in the reduced rifle capacity and it worked fine, but i haven't done a ton of testing with it yet.
i need to get going on that since i have about 30 lbs of the stuff.

[but so did H-110 and 1680 in the 0-6 rounds i tried them in]
1680 turned in some excellent groups in the 0-6 with either 22 or 22.5 grs [going from memory] under both a 150 and 170gr boolit.
