NOE 312290 30-06 loads

I loaded up 10 test loads to try out hopefully this weekend. R-P full length sized brass, CCI LRP 22gr of SR4759 loaded to 3.200"

The gas check is just below the neck. I hope this is not a problem. This is as far out as I can seat them. You can see in one of the pics where the bullet engages the rifling.

They are sized to .311" lubed with 2500+ and have one coat of BLL on them.

These are my very first 30-06 cast loads. They will be shot out of a Ruger Hawkeye.

I'll post a few pics.

Walter.

Might also want to try some slower powders like 4895, 4064,Varget or h380.

My loads are around 29 -31 grs 4064.

Am I seeing a bit of rifling engraving on the bullet forepart? It's a bore riding bullet... hopefully the nose is supported by rifling?

I had mentioned in a different post that the noses measure anywhere from .299" to .302" with this alloy.

50/50 coww/pure/ plus 2% foundry type.

I'm rather new to cast in rifles and an a bit clueless to all the little secrets of making good cast rifle rounds!

Well, let's see how she shoots for you, you're on the right track. I like to see just a hint of rifling engraving on a chambered round. The mold is what it is, but you can control the nose diameter to a small degree by varying your alloy.

In your shoes, I would work up a good load and worry about the nose later.

you want to see that engraving.
good firm square even engraving.

it looks like the front drive band is digging the ball seat area slightly when the round is being chambered too.
not a big deal.
I think your in good shape.

I noticed that too. If the lead that gets peeled back and shaved off is the same amount all the way around and ends up stuck in the grease rather than powdering and smearing in the bore, all will be well. When I see that scrape I usually drop down one thousandth smaller on the bullet sizing die. Sometimes they shoot better sized smaller, sometimes not.

So maybe I'll get a .310" sizer and give that a go if these don't shoot so well. Thanks guys.

It was a factory HP mold. There was no meplat around the HP pin. I found it almost imp. to get good fillout on the noses. Sent it to him and he fixed me up with 1 deep pin, 1 shallow pin, and 1 FP pin. I think it was just over a week turnaround till I had it back. 45$ well spent

Looking for that shooting report. Hope you do a photo spread of the rifle & a report. Those rifles interest me.
