When I was competing in high power I saw so many guys looking for that magic load that would shrink their groups. What they failed to understand was the fact they just weren’t that good as a shooter.

Saw the same thing with revolver shooters. No magic load keeps that front sight still.

well I got my slice down to just about predictable.
after that things don't go so well, but I'm down to maybe 6-7 putts per green.
so overall I'd say I'm improving.

After three or four years, I was down to about 85. I could putt pretty well, but had issues with driving the ball straight.

If I recall correctly, H.M. Pope, ( to me H.M. stood for His Majesty), said some shooters don't have the right temperament to be competitive shooters. That describes me to a T. I was at a schuetzen match and shot an off hand 228 out of 250 on one target, only to yank the first shot completely off the paper on the first shot of my next target. I turned in the target with 9 holes and was told I could have shot until I had 10 holes on the paper. I told them I missed completely and would live with that. Don't golfers call that a yip or something like that?

I shoot for fun - and it is ALL fun for me when shooting! But, man, I LOVE to shoot competition! I have shot competitively off/on since I was 15 yo (HS JROTC Rifle Team), pretty good at it, and am now 57. But, a key thing is, I tend to shoot against myself in a match, not the other guy. Lately, been shooting a lot of handgun types. Bowling pins, dueling trees, custom match scenario that is way cool and I won a nice gift cert for (and turned it into a semi-custom 1911!). Regardless, I tend to shoot "against myself." I am always competing against my best to shoot a new personal best.
