No problem Bret.
We all need a gentle reminder now and then.

You guys are all pretty good at keeping the staff lazy

Bret, being an old hard nosed ultra conservative myself,
I find it hard not to express my opinions.

The purpose of rule #2 isn't to create corrals or pens or limit free speech. It's purpose is that if this forum is used to disparage other forums it can only serve to make this forum look petty and small.

Charles, you were part of those discussions before this forum even went online.

Yep, I know that. Don't take things personal, I was talking about myself and not about the need for moderation. I understand it's purpose and need. I just have rebellion coded in my DNA. Sometimes, it has served me well and other times, not so much. I try not to look petty and small, but sometimes my humanity manages to slip under the door. I have repented enough in my life and have come to accept what 70+ years of self reflecton, have been unable to change. I am in the short rows of life now, and am content to "be what I be". Onward and upward.

We really, really did try hard to create the guidelines for this forum by examining, understanding, and attempting to correct the mistakes made by many others before us. I think the results here after 4.5 years on-line speak for themselves.

"...rebellion coded in my DNA." Man, to one degree or another, that describes pretty much all of us, doesn't it?

Ian....The rules/guidelines are good. No need to defend them. I am just not good with rules/guidelines. However, I will try and behave, as much as it lays within me. My wife tells me I have gone feral.

Human society has advanced because of rebels and rule breakers. Compiant folks never changed anything. My Grandfather, who raised me told me at an early age, "Son, if you don't want to make waves, don't ever say nothing, don't ever do nothing and don't every be nothing.". I had better shut up now and stick to gun stuff. I have some friends here, that I can explain life to face to face. They don't pay much attenton, but at least they let me blather on.

I like that Grandfathers wisdom.
Some days, I wake up as an old Curmudgeon needing only a good cup'a hot Joe to be my usual argumentative and lovable oldfartself.
Other days...well...not so good.
One thing for sure, if everyone went around not speaking their minds and being honest with each other...rather instead, trying to be politically correct...hmmmm...I think the world would be full of angry people who cain't get along.
As kids in the 50's we fought like kids do but we always came away from the big fight as friends and nothing stuffed down inside, just to get along.

Ayup, but there's change for the better and change for the worse. Rule breakers and rebels seldom seem to think their positions through to the end product. The exceptions would be guys like the Founding Fathers, but now I'm getting political again...

I think the positive rule breakers and rebels were those to which the G ' Pa' referred . I can't for the life of me figure out why Columbus wasn't hanged for a heiritic when he went to Isabella unless she just had a thing for suicidal bad boys . "I'm going to sail west to get to the east and not be shipwrecked , eaten or fall off the world and bring back all the treasures of the oriente ." , "Sure you will here's 3 ships and a couple of pounds of gold to stock and pay the crew see you next year . (Kissy face smile)" .

Sure I know a lot of blond/blue and gingers beat him here by up to 8000 yr but under the Inquisition Chris was a bad bad man .

Tesla certainly followed the path of least resistance ......(ohms my that does work both ways) .

What kind of a nut did people think Faraday was ?

JM Browning , not really a rebel but he definitely pushed some design limits and was working way out in the rough considering he started with treddle powered machines and files he probably forged himself .

Tesla certainly followed the path of least resistance Actually he was smart and educated, his competition was a salesman. Unfortunately, Tesla didn't have any $. Columbus already had maps to the 'new world' and she wanted $$. He wasn't a heritic as he wasn't a re-converted Jew. Inquisition was just a $ grab from Jews forced to convert to Catholicism, by the Roman Pope who frittered all his $ away. Spain was the bigger target as Germany/France/Rome were fighting over $ and control.

And little has changed in the meantime. I still think ol' Colombo had some MAJOR hammers to wield concerning Izzy, to enable such easy access to ships, supplies, and ducats. There is a story there in need of DNA inquiry, methinks. Being married to a lovely Spanish lady, I do know they (and her sisters) can go from "zero" to FULL INQUISITION in about 3 seconds. I have seldom been the target of those strafings, but it is unpleasant to be within a day's journey of same. Isabella, like Lucretia Borgia, did not shrink from Doing The Necessary Thing at the proper time. More's the pity that such actions aren't taken more often nowadays.

But he's such an easy target , Columbus that is . The idea of a circumnavigation was not a mainstream , accepted , popular idea , therefore heirisy . To the layman anyway . It's always been about the money . If there were no jouries and no returns how did Amerigo Vespucci draw maps ? Well because lots of people had been here and back for nearly 500 years before him and lots that stayed for 7,000 yr before that either by mistake or on purpose . See So. Carolina peet mummies and Rune Stones in America .

Paper patched lino . Fast , accurate , great for dead X's on paper not so much for game you wanna eat , yet guys swear by 75 gr Target bullets in 243 .........
