Paper Shotgun shells

Doesn't everyone have a stash of left over 57's?
Doesn't everyone have a flintlock fowler (or at least a caplock double)?

I've used the same approach as Mr. Ross: trim plastic shells to length, build a load column (powder/wads/shot/overpowder wad) and roll-crimp the case mouth. These work very well in some of the older shotguns I've played with over the years, particularly those with short chambers. I still kick myself for trading off a Lefaucheaux underlever with 2" chambers, I've never found another gun that worked so well for me when shooting doves.

In the early 1960's We shot Federal paper for Trap & Skeet. Then the Winchester AA Compression formed plastic hull came out.
Up to 10 - 12 loadings instead of 3 - 4 for the FED Paper.
The Factory Win were completely waterproof too. No paper base wad.

I still miss them, even if they were purple. And the Fed Paper took 209 primers too.

Remember when reloading departments in good sporting goods stores had cartons and cartons of Alcan and Federal card and cushion wads? Well when the plastic AA came along and killed off the card wad design, those stores dumped the wads at give away prices. Somebody had to be there to buy them didn't they?

I remember buying some wads and a few other reloading items at ACE hardware maybe 10-12 years back.
I still have a couple of boxes of Alcan wads [they have a soft waxy graphite coating on them]
