REM CDL 30-06,1-10 twist,24" brrl...wood stock.

Application:coyote and bobcat hunting at almost, extreme downward angles.Temps ranging from 60 down to low 20's,mid teens.Looking for velocities 1800-2000.

Will be hunting in some pretty dang steep mnts here in Va. for above.Deer are not on the menu .Throw in some crows.Imagine a 15-20 yd bow shot from a tree stand for angles. It's steeper down than a 45*...

I have the following powders;4198,4759,5744,trailboss,2400,4895....and some of the more typical jb powders 4350 and the like.Dacron fillers are fine, have used them for a long time.

Is there a powder listed above that is a "standout" with the ability to cope with steep down angles?I like 4895 and 4759.In that order, just what works(price, availability, inventory).

For what you are looking for I would suggest a 20ish grain charge of 2400 under a midweight 30 caliber bullet. You can go up by 2 or 3 grains as well. My next powder would be 4198 with a filler to keep it at the rear of the case.

Most powders do fairly well with all of the powder at the front or rear of the case, it is when it becomes a tiny "deer trail" the length of the case that some get kinda fuzzy.

28.5grs of 4895 and a 1 to 1.5 gr tuft of Dacron. [I prefer IMR]
everything is held in place and angles don't matter.
I have found 18-19grs of 2400 to be position sensitive in the 0-6, so much so that when I'm shooting ground squirrels and such I am careful to keep the barrel pointed up until I take the shot.

I haven't noticed 2400 being position sensitive, is it in low temps? Or have I noticed with odd groups on target and blamed it on something else... hummm

2400 can be position sensitive. I did some testing with my 45-70 years back it showed a definite sensitivity. A small tuft of Dacron eliminated the issue and allowed for a 1 gr powder reduction for the same velocity. Less vertical at 100 yards and mch more consistant velocities.
That said, I generally don't use the Dacron n that load as the velocity variation doesn't impair the loads ability to do what I need of it.

Might be a good application for imr7383. It will give low velocity & fill the case. Might be worth looking in to.

5744 would have the highest nitro content of those powders. Reloader 7 would be another that I would look at. Do load development at the range, and be sure to tilt the muzzle down prior to each shot so as to emulate shooting downhill. For lighter bullets you might want to consider Unique. Regardless, you'll need to do so load development to see what works in your rifle.

23-25gr 5744 under 160-180gr will be a good place to look in the '06.

+1000 on POI with 2400 loads going to hell in a handbasket at odd angles. Found that one out turtle shooting off steep embankments. Especially bad with the .30-'06.

I gotta agree with the LMG load here, it does have its place occasionally and is generally extremely dependable.

We are good to go.Have been using the 28.5,4895,Dacron fill load, fireforming cases. And breaking in rifle.Being generally too lazy to walk to the 100yd berm, shooting has been done @50...

Brrl seems to be breaking in.Haven't cleaned it,but keeping an eye on it.Above load is going into ragged one holers.

Thanks for all the suggestions/help.
