the heat soak on the whole bowl is the key.
I have had some decent sessions where one of the drippers was making number-5 tear drops, globs, and all sorts of funky shapes, while the other 7 were making number 8's.
there was the slightest of breezes on that one side [in an enclosed shop] so I bent an old license plate to make a little shield, gave the bowl a little tap and it was fine.
you really don't need to add hot lead from another source once it's had some time to really get going, but that first 20 minutes or so it would be nice.
