Interesting how long they've been around. I was seriously shooting pistols in action type events in the 80's and thought I knew all the makers. I remember when a fat grip doublestack 1911 clone came out. I forget who made it. I want to say it was a Brazilian outfit like Taurus. A guy that shot with us had one. But that was the only one I knew about back then. You would have thought that STI would have been known everywhere.

IIRC, was a Canadian outfit that came out with that particular 1911............. Para Ordnance. Sold off to Remington in 2012. I googled it.

I don't pay much attention to 1911's cause I've never own or wanted one. However, the gun rags are flooded with them.

Yes, that's it. Para Ordnance. Never knew they were Canadian. I know shooters were buying their frames and having guns built. Thanks.

Pistol trends come and go. Remember when all you read about were 9mm's? I stopped reading gun mags because they actually got boring. Even the American Rifleman was always filled with the latest 9mm junk. Drove me nuts.

Always liked the 1911, ever since I was a kid. But my preference is wheelguns and specifically S&W Blued wheelguns. I think part of it is I always hated picking up my brass when I shot semi-autos.

They were around in the 80's but didn't take off (it seemed) until the 90's I think. In the 90's the owners of the patents for the frame split and Sandy Strayer teamed with Mike Voight to form (SVI) Infinity. Then both STI and SVI were involved in USPSA and their use seemed to grow. There was also the Caspian hi-cap frame which saw use in USPSA. I still have some USPSA pistols (3xSTI and an SVI open and a Caspian open gun), all except the Para because those frames were cast and were not great cosmetically.
