Test of 37gr NOE for comparison

Got to the range yesterday, when it was still below 90 and not much wind. Have long read about shooting GC bullets without the checks at lower vols, but had never tried it. However I have 37gr NOE both PB and GC molds, and decided to test.

I loaded 5 of each plain base and 5 of GC (w/o) check, over 2.5 gr of Red Dot (my favorite plinker load with both PB and GC's) in the #3 KHornet Ruger.

Both bullets were sized .225, and had 3 coats of BLL (no other lube)
The GC blt without the GC went into .775 in a nice rounded group.
The plain base went into .450 in a nice rounded group.

If all things were/are equal, in my mind the gc bullet w/0 the GC is less accurate (potentially). Now, I know that one simple test with only one group proves little, so I guess I will have to run the test a few more times. May well be the cheapest test with cast bullets I have ever done. It is about like shooting 22Shorts.

That plain base is offering you a real nice gas seal.
Makes you wonder if you changed brands of primers, went up or down 2/10, played with the OAL a bit what might happen ?????????????

Ah Ben, I was trying to sort of forget all those variables that you brought up. Now that will require just that much more testing over a period of time. Guess I will have to work out with the variables (when I find the time).
