I just split the turkey in half.
back, thighs, and legs are gonna go in the smoker.
the breast and wings are sitting in the pan in a 170-F oven soaking up more steam.

I think everyone is gonna be surprised when I show up with a half smoked and half 'regular cooked' bird.

problem is I have no idea how to top it next year.
that's a future me problem I gotta work this one out in the next couple of hrs... LOL

y'all be safe out there, the roads ain't all dry and clear.

Have ya ever done the bird in peanut oil Lamar. Some of the best most moist turkey I've ever had. Fastest cook time too but not all that cheap with the cost of the peanut oil. Sure is some fine eatin though.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I have more friends, here, than I've had in my entire life, though I've never met any of you face-to-face. If I could, I'd shake hands with every one of you. Thanks for putting up with me!

Happy Thanks Giving, everyone.
Just sat down to the turkey and finished my first plate.
Surprisingly,Was the moistest turkey I have had in a while.
Out of peanut oil (went strong) and had used all the propane making ingot(oops).
So was watching u tube videos, on ways to do the turkey last night.
Woman on there said "Why all the fuss, just put the turkey in the***oven."
I thought Why not.
So cleaned it dried it off, put it in the old blue pan in the refrigerator last night. Got up at 10:00. No stuffing or injections, shoved a stick of butter in it,rubbed the top with sea salt, covered it with foil, threw the lid on and shoved it in the oven.
.Best turkey we had in years.:)

Dressed up and loaded up the family and headed to my MIL's house for a great visit and feast, five of us at the table this year (well, one was in his bouncer cradle), FAR better than all those years with just three and little hope.

Turkey. There is one way I like it and only one way: brined and baked per Emeril's recipe. 12 years ago I didn't think there was a way to make turkey with good flavor and not dry, but there is and this is it. MIL does it that way and it still blows me away every time. So we had that and some instant pot venison ham that I cooked last night in a salted veggie broth, turns iut to be very good with McCormick white gravy mix, who knew? None of are bug gravy fans but once a year it's good on biscuits. Home now, safe and sound, cold mist falling outside, gonna make a cup of coffee and either nap or cast bullets....haven't decided yet.
