This is becoming my favorite 30 caliber mold

Thank you Ian. it is quite easy to point out a problem but offering a solution makes a huge difference.
The teaching part is what I love about this place.
My solution was to get rid of my Lyman sizers. And it hurts to admit that because I always like Lyman. I suppose because when I started bullet casting it was the only product available at my local Gun Shop.

When I was helping make commercial cast bullets I took payment in used equipment. At one point I may have had 7 Stars. Still have 4 and really like that system, if and when I size at all.

And yes! that looks like a really good design, what are you shooting it through? I'm in the market for a 190-200ish gr. mould for 30-06, and the current frontrunner is SAECO 315 or possibly one of the Ideal/Lyman Loverin designs, but I wish they were just a bit heavier.

What velocities are you shooting them at?

If you like the " 315 " style but are looking for a heavier bullet, this may be your friend ?

Tom at Accurate Moulds :
( Of course , you can give Tom your specs on the dia. of the nose and drive bands along with the alloy you will be using and you'll get the mould you want.)

Ben, they shoot great in all my ‘06 rifles. I’m getting 3/4”
Groups at 50 yds and about 1650 FPS. I thought the suggestions might help me squeeze a little more out of them .
Your are right though, the target tells the tale.
Thanks, Malcolm

that little angle on the front drive band will tell you if your dead center or not.
I got a little bottle of one particular bullet that immediately are rejected because of that little band smear.

and just so ya know Tom has a design for an even heavier [220grs.] bullet that pours out to 314,
it's made for those long throated 31 cal. rifles

Ian a little more info please. Do you first lower the top punch to see which way the die is tilted to. Then put the shim in to push the sizing die so it is centered better on the top punch?
Just another day in school.

Malcolm,

What powder charge are you using? I've got a 184gr flat base .311" bullet that I'd love to get that kind of velocity with in my '06.

Malcolm,

I was planning on trying 16.0gr 2400 with my 184gr cast non-gascheck bullet. Anywhere's near your charge weight?
