I agree this is getting deep!!! I can’t help but watch this now it’s like a train wreck. You can’t help but watch knowing you should look away.
It finally sold for $61.00 plus shipping. Still plenty of money for such a plain single cavity mould.

A guy I once worked with, who's values I already questioned, asked me to bid some ridiculous sum on a Pandora bead his wife listed on eBay.

"What the h... am I going to do with a Pandora bead and WHY would I pay that kind of money for it??"

He said "oh, no, you wouldn't get the bead, she just needs to make sure it doesn't sell for less than she paid."

The then current bid was way below the going price and no one was bidding.

I said "NO."

Wouldn't surprise me if he had a buddy bid it up to a stupid sum just to drive it up. Hate to think that way about humanity, but it is what it is. I've met some of the best people I've ever known through my interest in guns and shooting. On the other hand, I've met some of the lowliest of low-lifes that way too. Worked for one for a while and he was a lying, two-faced, cheating,.... well, I can't say the rest here. He'd come in at the end of Saturday and clean out the cash box and go out the back door without paying me for the week. I started taking my bit out near the end of each day. When he questioned why the register was short, I explained that he has COSTS as well as revenue and one of those costs would be covered before he got his "revenue" from that point forward. Another trick was to take things in on trade that I wanted and keep them in lieu of the cash. Can't deal with a snake like it's a mouse.

Saw that the other night and hadn’t got around to posting it. Yea 61.00 was plenty for it. Guess he realized that was a fair price for it. Readily don’t care there is another single cavity mold old smooth ideal going for 52,right now that looks unused. Or used very very little.

This is very common on all auctions, not only eBay and Gun Broker. Fine art does this very often, with the approval of the auction house (for a slight remuneration).

An interesting thread.

I have wanted a Lyman 452423 for quite some time, and happened upon one fortuitously at NCBS 2018 (IIRC). It is in great condition, and of recent manufacture. I can't recall when Lyman took them out of print, sometime around 1998-2000. This design was meant for the 45 ACP/AR revolvers per Elmer Keith, and I look forward to running some through my 625 (and maybe the Gold Cup and P-220). This assumes the cavities cast large enough (.452"+) when I get around to casting again--I have a ton+ of pistol bullets cast (quite literally).

Back to the concept of "Prehistoric single cavity Lyman pistol mould @ $250" for a moment.......two words--"Accurate Molds". If you want to spend that kind of cake on a tool, Tom could make and ship a steel 4-cavity tool for less money and you would have a far better mould. I am not a user of E-Bay, and this is big reason why.

For awhile I couldn't figure out how so many auctions I had bid on ended exactly on my maximum bid. On some of them, I thought I was just lucky to win at my top dollar, and some I'd only get beaten by a dollar or less. It turns out there's another kind of cheater, one who runs bids up by bidding up at the minimum dollar amount, over and over. For instance, if I placed a maximum bid of $100.00, and the bidding was up to $95.00, the cheat would bid $96.00 and fail, then $97.00 and fail, and so on until a "tie" point was reached and then they'd stop bidding. The first bidder to an amount always wins any ties. I saw this happen over and over with some sellers so I quit bidding on their auctions. I think ebay watches for these bidders anymore, even though they aren't technically doing anything wrong.

I'm pretty much out of the auction game anymore, I think I have all the moulds I need for now, and prices are pretty reasonable since that last panic. I did just buy another 358156hp Ideal for $75.00 plus shipping and tax. It's used, but all original, my other two copies have replacement stems, but this one has the original stem and shows little use, but long storage. I'm happy.

I had bought a large assortment bullets molds from an estate. Among these molds were 358477 and 358156 hollow points. The real place to score on molds is where they are seen as white elephant burdensome. The real wonderment in that assortment was an old 356402 hollow point mold. That mold is an example of "what was somebody thinking."

I got one of those mold but single cavity and marked 160 grs. Got interested after reading about the bullet. Evidently some people loads it as a WC and others as a SWC. Here the bullet will be loaded as a +P 38 Special. This will not be a big deal. It's just some place, like many, that I have not been before.

If the "buy it now" price isn't what I want to pay, I don't bother. I don't bid on anything anymore. Seems every time anything comes along that works, someone is burning the midnight oil to find a way to cheat at it. I've pretty much got what I need (almost) but I will no longer buy three or four moulds to find a good one - I'll just buy a new 4C from Arsenal. I'd buy a mould I want from anyone on this forum, but otherwise, it's too easy to get exactly what you want for under a hundred bucks with a "custom" mould.
