Tooltech Gunsight Inc

So after installing the new Trijicon night sights on my defender I found the gun to still shoot low. When I ordered they did not give the specs on the front sight height. I took a chance and rolled snake eyes. Come to find out they only offer the blade height that I ordered. Trijicon put me in touch with Tooltech Gunsight Inc to see if they could help me. Once they replied to my email and I sent them pictures they said they could make me a front night sight any height I spec'd. After running the numbers through a calculator and getting help from Trijicon we have established a front sight at .160 should put me dead on. This is also the height Novak recommends for the Defender. Unfortunately I have an older Defender with the bastardized Colt dovetails and Novak does not supply sights to fit that dovetail cut. Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know if they have any needs as I did this company can possibly help you out. I'll report back when I install the new sight.

Thats a shocking ordeal.

I never had any poi/poa variance with my defender. Was using a couple flavors of 200gr home cast lead. I wonder if a load development could save the trouble of sending it off.

I do remember the sights being off breed & they (colt) quoted me 250+ for night sights, I declined. The wait was over 3 months at the time.

At least you found a place to help.

Fussy work, very specialized stuff - good to find a company that will do it. Most machine
shops would have no clue about gun work like this and fit is really crucial, not easy to
do. Most folks just send in the whole gun
and that is an expensive proposition, both shipping and the smith work. Sounds like
a great service to have available.

I am working thru similar issues with new Ruger Ltwt Commander. Putting new bushing in
to tighten up groups (OK, but I am not satisfied with OK) and I really can't deal with it being
9" high at 20 yds. I want to be able to do head shots on a IPSC target reliably at 20 yds.
(6" box), meaning about 3-4" max dispersion with me standing. Gun should be able to
do 2-3" at that distance, or better.

I have made a front sight using a dovetail cutter and sight upside down to match angles.
Getting the fit just right was pretty tricky, but a friend loaned me a custom designed dovetail
measuring tool which will measure your dovetail and then compare the sight dovetail to see
how much to take off. Worked well, got the fit at about .0005 interference. I wanted .001
interference, but I will take it at .0005 error. A drop of blue loctite will be added once all
is set, just in case that isn't quite enough interference. At least it is a standard dovetail
dimension on the Ruger slide, 65* x 0.330 .075 deep - the standard "Novak cut". Unfortunately,
nobody makes a sight the height I need, including Ruger. Not like I am using some odd
loads, either. 230 JHP factory is 8-9" high depending on brand

I will be drilling for a fiber rod, pretty much like the tool company will be drilling for a
tritium capsule.

Just to update. I will be sending them the original front sight so they can make sure to get it correct.

maybe I should modify my handhold?
I could try the 'flat palm on bottom' grip or the 'anticipate the recoil' grip.
I already tried 90grs of bullet weight difference, and sped them up and slowed them down.
I even tried pushing the trigger to the left to see if I could get the holes to appear anywhere but behind the muzzle.
