Unique

There's a few 8 pounders here if anyone is hurting.

Thanks Lynn. You just cost me like $400 but they had enough Reloder 7 to get me barely into my comfort zone again. They actually had lots of stuff in stock and pretty good prices. Maybe not all the powders the tacticool ninjas snatch up but plenty to work with in a pinch if you know what to buy.

Called my reloading shop in North Platte yesterday and they told me that they had just got a shipment of powder in and he'd put some Unique back for me to pick up Friday. I threaten to replace Unique with something else but I have no idea what that would be and besides Unique has been around long that all of the experimenting has already been done for us.

Ian I've never used Reloader 7. It must be a go to for you?

Yes. I have developed a lot of full-power (or nearly so) rifle loads for barrels in the 18-20" range, mostly for use with suppressors, and RX-7 has no equal in three areas: Accuracy, velocity, and lowest possible muzzle pressure for the velocity. LR-308, M1A, .35 Remington, and .30 WCF all get loaded with it as do my subsonic 300 BLK loads. The BLK with 230-grain bullets needs to work the actions of both 16.5" barrels with carbine gas systems and shorter ones with pistol systems and RX-7 is the only one to do it well. I4198 will too but isn't as accurate.

Since I load all these in bulk I go through more RX-7 than any other powder in my magazine. When I started using suppressors my whole approach to handloading changed, now I powder coat every bullet I load and only use three powders: RX-7, Universal, and Titegroup.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I use RX7 in 55 gr 223 loads. It is listed as Sierras "best" target load for 223 with 55 gr bullets, and it does perform extremely well. My next application will likely be 458 SOCOM with 325 to 350 gr cast. I'm a bit "rifle poor" in the areas it seems to make its best showings.

It will excel at that. Should be able to touch 1800 fps without flowing the headstamp into the bolt face.

Unique seemed to always work in anything for me, pistol, rifle, or shotgun. Been using it since 1967 and always have some on hand, maybe not the best for a given caliber, but it will work in anything. Unique and aa no. 5 are the best I've tried for the 45 colt

@oscarflytyer, I've posted most of the loads, rifle, and chronograph data on this board. Look at starting jacketed load data for same-weight bullets and work up from there with powder-coated cast. Several of my loads are a few grains over max jaxketed but PC'd lead often (not always!) takes more powder to do the same thing.

Since this is a Unique thread ....... and not that I have any plans to change having a sufficient stash to run me another 20 yr .....

Has anyone tried the advertised 99% interchangeable Unequal ? Just wondering if it will be the new clean low hazmat replacement or if it was just a market grab shot . The Unique 2005 lot doesn't look like the 1968 powder at all , so maybe it's already been cleaned up .

Just musing out of boredom .

I settled on Universal instead during the last shortage. Use it in 16 ga, 20 ga, 45acp, 45 Colt, 308 light cast, 38-55 light cast, and today figured out that it works pretty good on cast in the 25-20WCF.
Called the local skeet club the other day to order another 4 lb'er to replace the one I just emptied. Just got a text today that he couldn't get the 4 lb so he ordered an 8. Guess I'll be set for a while since I still had a new 4 lb'er on hand.
