I was rummaging through all the lube odds and ends from the lube quest and decided to put together another batch of HOMO lube.
I got everything together and estimated the outcome and commenced to making a couple of batches up.
as the first one cooled off I looked it over and decided it needed more wax to firm it up even further so I added in a pound of bees-wax to the second batch.
and re-melted the first batch [except for about 8 oz's which I set aside] and added in the same amount of hard bees-wax.
I let both batches sit out to cool off while I went to the range and over to see a shooting buddy of mine at work.
I just went out to the garage to check everything out.
wouldn't you know it the first batch is sitting there feeling like play-dough with a touch of tackiness and good mush to it. [in other words just right]
the other two batches are just about rock hard [siiigh] so it looks like I will need to add in a little bit of softening agent and a little bit of flexifier. [also known as lithium grease and lanolin]

I did mix in some of the soap gel I made some time back and it really made everything lock together into a full grease matrix.
I should have known it was gonna harden up after about 12 hrs.
I only missed it by [ ] that much.

They always get harder with time. Always.

Now you won't need lube for quite some time.

hopefully.
I'm just about through the lube quest stuff and have 2 batches of moly complex made up for the serious stuff.

I was targeting a lube specifically for what the 9mm has been telling me it wants and I just got carried away.
I really knew better but was distracted thinking about all the stuff was I needed to get together to take over to my buddy.
no big deal really just another hour or so and refiguring some weight.

We need t-shirts for all the times we BTDT! You think "DOH! too much plasticizer, ruined another batch" and two days later grab the block to toss in the HOMO lube bin when you notice the wax and grease thickener locked everything up really nice after all.

How about just throwing some Vaseline at it? The microwax in it couldn't hurt and the paraffin oils will soften up a lube without adding any more slippery agent to the mix.

I was thinking about the Vaseline too I do have those 2 jars of the plastic like yellow stuff here.
I think the sodium stearate gel was what gave me the false impression of softness since it was still in the jelly state when I looked at it.
then as it cooled everything went into full lock-up and the wax just sucked everything up.

the more I think about this the more I think I might run a couple of tests on this lube.
I'm gonna heat some up in the wave and some over the burner watching the softening temp to see when it flows.
this stuff has the faintest oil that you can just barely feel if you wipe on it really hard.
I think it would leave a pretty good c.o.r.e. condition behind.
if the softening [flow] temp isn't much over about 115-120 I might just run with it.
this could make a very good hot weather/long string lube.

it'll be totally un repeatable but I have enough for like 50 sticks of lube here.
