No, sir--no need for racing fuels these days to see this sort of nonsense on display. As in a previous comment, these price points are fully TWICE what I would consider fair and reasonable for the items offered. To be fair, Brownell's has never been known as a discount retailer--so there is that.
I do poorly at tea-leaf reading, but it seems that consumables are starting to return to the market. I perused the MidwayUSA site a bit yesterday, and they have a number of bullets in stock by Speer, Sierra, and Hornady. Prices are about 15-30% higher than they were 2 years ago, but stuff is in stock--and it's stuff I use a lot, like Sierra 52 grain MKHPs. So,, we shall see. Given the quality of most news over the past 18 months, I'll take any good news happily right now.

I bought 1,000 small rifle primers for $80 last week. Was not happy but was down to about 80 small rifle primers for loads that needed a rifle primer. If I had thousands of them I would certainly not have made the purchase. At least no hazmat or shipping fees. Your perspective does change when you’re out of something.

The point was / is "Financing Available"... You need financing for cars, houses, home improvements... and primers?

I'm setting up at a small, local show soon, hopefully my last show on that side of the table. I'm thinking of setting a box of 100 22 LRs out and putting them in a locked display case with a $100 sticker on them to stir things up and poke at my fellow enthusiasts.

I may shamelessly steel the idea and add a sign, "financing available" just to push the line a little.;)

There will be plenty of codgers with strong opinions who don't mind expressing them if you push the right button.

Sometimes you gotta laugh, right?

"Nothing Down, Twelve Months to Pay"... Maybe design a logo for a financing service, like GMAC did for GM buyers?

"Willing To Finance"?

Don't put a price tag on them. Nothing but a sign that says . . . . "Financing Available".

Last month I was visiting with a neighbor who has a commercial refrigeration/insulation business and he said his steel prices have doubled and delivery pushed back by a couple of months. Raw material supplies in general are strained and prices rising.

I am thinking $75 per thousand for primers is going to be the usual price in the future, even when (if) the supply chain evens out and we get back to some semblance of balance in supply and demand. I won’t buy from the scalpers. My local gun shop had CCI Small Pistol Magnum on the shelf at $69 per thousand, but I don’t use those. They didn’t last long. He has since had some regular Small Pistol, but I missed out on those as well.

I did chuckle at the “financing available” posting on Brownell’s site. Doing the math, round numbers, $75 per brick of primers (assume buying 2 bricks), $20 hazardous materials fee, $10 shipping, $12 state tax, comes out to about $95 per thousand, not too far off the mark of $100 gun show pricing. Ouch!

PERFECT!

That's exactly how I'm going to do it.

I'm taking a few boxes of 22LR along just in case someone tries to use "lacka" (lacka ammo) as an excuse not to buy a 22 rifle I'm taking along, so I'll have some. Or, I could mark the 22s "$450, comes with free rifle."

No, I like your idea better.

I know one thing - I won't be just outright selling any rimfire OR primers at any price at the coming show. I'd have to firmly believe that prices would get reasonable again soon if I were to do that. I have brass/dies for two rifles I hope to move and I am not selling brass or dies until the corresponding rifle sells, or use it to bargain on selling the rifle, but I'm not giving anything away either. I may trade brass for brass, but I can't sell it for what I paid or I'd never be able to replace it with something else I need. I'll let go of a limited amount of 22s WITH the rifle only, and can afford to sell that for what I paid for it before the crunch. If it doesn't go WITH the rifle, or the rifle doesn't sell, the 22 ammo is going home with me.

Bird in the hand.....

Speaking of stockpiled components. I thought I was desperately short of some funky I-Talian steel shot wads and called Precision Reloading to order more. They are out, of course, have no idea when they'll see more, and put me on a list to be notified. They have not seen any since last year.

Today whilst rummaging through a cabinet out in the casting shed looking for 9m/m brass I find an unopened box from Precision Reloading shipped to me in 2019 with 500 of those special wads. Also a couple of garbage bags of those cheapy Federal Top Gun cases I use for my steel shot loads. A sigh of relief slithered out of me. I swear I could hide my own Easter basket.

What happens is I'll get a wild hair and try to organize the loading room which doubles as a spare bed room occasionally. I will always be in a hurry and will cart stuff out to one of three sheds with shelves and cabinets and little hidey holes. Now if I could only find the powder paint puffer for my jig painting. That'd be great.

Just make sure you fill it with wads, primers, powder, etc. and skip the eggs. If it took you two years to find the wads, eggs might not be too appetizing by then.;)

I just found a full gallon bag of once-fired, processed LC 5.56 brass I didn't know I had. I don't even remember acquiring it or why. Wish it would have been something more useful, but what the heck, it's sort of like "free."
