World isn't always so big

I made a new friend today. Always good to put a hand shake and a face with someone we visit with on the net.
Pistolero, aka Bill.
Looked at his lathe and he showed me the general basics of the machine. We visited a fair bit and covered a wide variety of subjects.
There was "hijacking" of subjects from both sides, lol. One thing would lead to another of course. We stayed course for the most part, lathes, metal working, outdoors, cast bullets, shooting and hunting. Funny how the first two are connected to the others.
I have met several folks over the years from different forums. All of them have always been great to visit with, cuss and discuss various subjects, and become friends.
My dad always said a man was only granted one good dog in a life time. His wealth should be judged by how many friends he has and nothing monitary.

I am pretty darn lucky on both counts.

Weather was bad here so I didn't get my machinest buddy to come with me. All though we had a mutual friend that had looked it over and visited with him on the subject.
I am pretty sure it has found a new home though. Now to figure exactly where I am going to put it.
Thanks Bill. One of the best mornings I have had for a while.

Bill is a good guy. He has stopped by a couple times when I was working. Need to stop by his place some day when I'm in the area.

Sounds like a good time.

I am sure that you will enjoy the new toy...I know that I would like to have one.

Jeff, how far from KC are you? I'm about 3.5 hours north on I29. I live just south of Omaha.

It is a small world. Bill spent some of his childhood in the same town in SoCal that I spent much of mine.

I think folks who get into casting and reloading tend to be "do it yourselfers". E.g., also possess the desire to fabricate their own tools and accessories.

Brad,I am just south of Leavenworth and north of KC. I am 45-60 minutes south of St Joe, MO.
Took me about 30-35 minutes to get to Bill's in the slight ice today.
It was 06 since the last time I met anyone from any of the forums I frequented. A great time for sure and not near enough time. That was at the IHMSA internationals in Ohio.
Fifteen or so years ago when I first got started on the confusers and Internet, got involved with a bunch of folks. All with the same interest, handguns, pocket rifles, revolvers, wheel guns, aka specialty pistols.
We started off on a couple of forums, then on yahoo chat. The yahoo chat I met several guys and we all got along very well. I grew close to them as they did to me. We were usually on every night, more than once I fixed supper while I visited. We talked everything from guns, family, life in general etc. One, moved to Wyoming, had a tragic accident with a pistol.
Another lived in NY and so much wanted to be a "red neck" of sorts. I always told home he lived to far east of the Mississippi, lol. He also passed way before his time.
That left two of us. We continued to talk, only on the phone. Like a couple of old gossiping women, I will admit. Several hours at a time was and is not uncommon.
Well last year we decided enough was enough. It was time to shake hands. We are manly men, but after all this time it was past just a shake, we hugged like long lost family. So I made the drive to Louisiana. I had been down there before and had other friends in the state. I was made to feel like family for sure. Heck I think his dogs even like me more than him, lol.
So this year it was his turn. He made the trip north. I tried my best to show him as good a time as he showed me. We took off and went west, almost to the Colorado line. He got to see a lot of mule deer and antelope. This was as far west and north as he had ever been. We were after white tails, but saw very very few. CWD has taken its toll there, worse than it was in 2015. He was used to trees, I don't think he got real used to their absence the whole time we were there. Though he was always surprised to drive over a hill and find oaks or cottonwoods that you didn't see from 200 yards away.
So after talking and not doing for 15 years, we have decided to try and make it a more frequent habit.
Looks like I need to go north now. Yet you never know who lurks close to home.

Nice write up Jeff.

On shop space;I know this to be true, haha. What more often than not happens,a guy gets a pce of equipment...and then another, repeat, repeat. They'll bring it in the shop and plop it down on the first pce of available real-estate.

The phenomenon happens when the pcs start to add up,space wise. Then you start to really examine not only work flow, but how if you just moved a cpl things....usually storage/stowage,sometimes junk.....

You end up with more floor space than you had BEFORE moving the new pce in.It's happened so often that it ain't coincidencedental.Staying away from,"analysis to paralysis"....just don't be afraid of moving some "stuff" in the bigger picture. You're gonna be grinning and wondering how anyone gets along without a lathe before you know it.Slow and steady on the move....it isn't a race.BW

BW, I have found my "cleaning" practice to mean pile higher, lol.

Without the advantage of a shop of sorts, I am relegated to the basement. My dad did a lot down there, short of welding. I could easily keep it a mile from the house, but that is still not convenient. Much easier to come home, take a few steps and be there along with climate controlled.
