My daughter and I have embarked on a journey with my 221 Fireball and 222 Mag benchrest guns and I have the excellent NOE 225-55-FP 61.x grains and NOE 225-47-FP moulds, but would really like something in 55 grains.

I never considered cast in them until she asked why not... Well, she has shot a couple of 4 in, 1 out groups where the 4 in measured only a few thousands over bullet diameter so far. I have a Lyman 225462 4C that is in awesome condition that I might consider for a trade.

Drop me a note if you are interested or want to part with a mould. I do ask that the as cast diameter be at least .225 consistently around the driving bands.

Thanks Matt

the rcbs 22-055-s will make more like 65grs or @66.5gr. ''dressed out'' when cast from number-2 alloy.

Really? That is far to heavy for me. I cast with 94/3/3 and PC rifle bullets. Can you suggest a true 55 grain in this design style? I see Lee has one, but it is Lee...

Would depend on the mold & alloy I reckon. My RCBS 22-55 FN casts CWW +2% Sn at 56.5 gr and the RCBS 22-55 SP casts the same alloy at 57.2 gr. The RCBS 22-60 FN casts the same alloy at 61.0 Gr.

lee copied the rcbs mold but I don't know exactly how closely.
I know 1-2 guys here have it so they'd have to chime in.

Dang Rick.
I had to scuff mine out some to make 225 too.
I'm not gonna complain even a little bit though, it has shot all the way up over 2800 fps in several rifles will little to no load development.

I am pushing the PC'ed NOE 47FP to the upper 2700's in my 221 Fireball. But, it has not been as accurate as the NOE 60FP. My 55 is the Lyman round nose and it is not ideal for the purpose. With PC, I would expect the Lee would make 225. That is the bullet shape I am after. I am weighing all of the bullets as the final step, sorting into .2 grain intervals and the big NOE groups in 3 well defined weight groups, maybe 10 % outside of the groups. They become foulers.

Info only--not for sale--my RCBS 22-55-SP casts at .2255" and scales 57.8-58.0 grains as-cast in 92/6/2. It loses almost a full grain in Linotype.

I have a two cavity Lee 55gr and I just weighed 10 bullets that have been powder coated and sized with NO gas checks and they weigh 56gr give or take a couple tenths.

mine has a kind of long gas check shank I'm now wondering if they cut it too deep or what.
10grs all dressed up is way more than everyone else is getting.
I did slightly modify the nose in front of the drive band but not no 6-7grs. worth maybe 1,,, 2 at most.

it looks like everyone else is close to 57-58grs average.
