311284......lets talk about this mold

Cast a few of these for the '06. I didn't try anything fancy. Sized them .310 lubed with Carnauba Red. Seated them just deep enough to cover the top lube groove. Can't remember exactly but the powder charge was either 38 or 40 grains of IMR 4895. I fired these in a 70 Winchester. The 50 yard groups were nice & tight but the 100 yard not so much. Have used it but that one day as I decided the rifle needs a recoil pad for my sissy shoulder before moving on.

Red Dot...only about 1450 fps.
I have also gotten excellent results with
Around 30 grs of 4064, lots less recoil than 4895.

Creeker..... .310 maybe good for commercial firearms, .311 for most military.
Fit bullet to throat, nose dia. and lube are very important too ( check out "Fit is king")
1200 FPS max for plain base.
1800 FPS Tops for CWW + 2% tin, 4-4-92 better.
Check out the HV threads for anything over 1800 FPS
Creating bug holes are my game, others like pushing the limits.
This site has a lot of info, and some really knowledgeable characters...uh individuals;)

Great bullet. Had Buckshot HP my single cav Lyman a few years ago. Haven't shot it much. Has any one by any chance tried it in a 308?

What are your thoughts on this mold in the '06, .308, and 30-30 (bolt gun)
Informal plinking and the like. This particular mold I'm looking at is a PB mold as well ( I know this will get Ben's attention! ) Anyone have any firsthand experience with this bullet in these calibers?
Thanks.
Walter

I purchased a used single cav. -284 years ago and wish I hadn't sold it as it was one of the nicest casting moulds I owned. Unfortunately the nose was undersized and wasn't nearly as accurate as Saeco #315 or Lyman #31466 in either my .30-06 or .30-30Win. It never occurred to me to try it in my 7.62 x 54R, but I think it would have been a match for Ly. 314299 in my M-39 Finn.

I know there is no "magic bullet"(pun intended) with cast and rifles, but I was looking to get a 4-5 cavity mold to supply bullets for a couple 30-30's, a .308, and an '06
What would be a good place to start? If there is one? Twist rates run from 10 to 12"

Creeker, try 39.5 grains of H-4350 under that 311284 in your '06. Seat out to snug up that front band in the throat, however long that ends up and don't worry if the lube groove is exposed, that's what ammo boxes are for, right? :D That will put you at about max "easy" accurate velocity for that bullet and groups should stick together decently at long range. If you bump that bullet too hard it will bend and deform every which way you don't want it to in the throat, there simply isn't enough support for it the way most '06 rifle throats are cut. Your logarithmic group size increase with range is a typical indication of crooked starts and bent bullet syndrome.

I'm with Maven, I'm a big fan of the SAECO # 315.
If you like an aluminum mould, NOE has a SAECO #315 clone.
I own a HP SAECO #315 , I cast with it today.

The one and only one the 315.
Just not sure about the crimp on a 30-30.
Plenty of places to choose.
When I am casting those it warms my heart.

Right on Ben !
18 grs 2400 and 21.7 grs Rx7 in either my 4 or 2 groove o3s give me the same results as yours at 100 yds.

Best part is you only have to point the gun in the general direction and pull the trigger.

Ben's Red and BLL of course for lube

Ben's Red and BLL has far exceeded what I believed was possible. The popularity level of the two has gone " off scale". When I began sharing the recipe for Ben's Red many years ago, I never dreamed this would happen......... ? ?

Many, including yourself, have used it to accomplish some fine shooting with their cast bullet rifles.
