357mag testing

Went out yesterday morning to sight in my new red dot and test a couple loads that shot good before. First the pistol. Taurus 627 357mag with a 6.5" barrel. I have not liked Taurus over the years because of the NON-QC they have had. But I have heard over the past couple of years they have got their act together. So I ended up getting this with me knowing it may not be ok. But everything checks out really well. Tight lock up and perfect timing. The barrel is very smooth with no defects. Two cylinders are a hair tighter than the other 5. Did I mention this is a 7 shot?? I like that.

A few weeks ago I ordered a new red dot and mount for this as my eyes are not the best right now. I ordered a Sightron srs-2 that was on sale. And a Weigand Machine Weig-a-tinny mount. This mount is very well made. It went on very easy. Hardest part was finding a punch small enough to get the roll pin out of the pistol.

I shot at 25yds today. Not too bad for just starting off. The bullets were a MP360-640 hp and a MP359-158swcbb

The one round crossed off was first shot to see where the gun was shooting. I then shot the first group on the left target. I adjusted the red dot to hit more center on the middle group. The last group was a 38 spec aimed at the first dot. It hit a bit high but acceptable for what I was doing.

I haven't owned a bunch, but the two Taurus revolvers I own have been good for what they are. Both are short fixed sight variants.

At the gun show this past weekend, a table had a Taurus in .44 special with a six in h barrel and adjustable sights. Really had me interested, but don't hsve the fun money at the moment.

Thanks for the report.

We we started shooting steel decided we needed to know why our DW 15-2 with a 10" barrel would throw one shot off to the left.
So stapeled targets at 25 yards. Marked one cylinder with nail polish. That became 1st shot on left target.
Discovered one cylinder always Grouped to the left.
DW replaced the crane. When it got back (No charges) it still is the most accurate .357 we have owed.
