400 Legend

Looks like Winchester decided the 350 Legend needed a big brother. I'll say gun and ammo companies will do anything to separate the consumer from their money.

At least this one seems to bridge a gap unlike the odd duck Remington put out. This is going to spark an all new 9mm vs 40 vs 45 debate in the rifle world. People will compare the 350 Legend, 400 Legend and 450 Bushmaster for decades to come.

A 215 gr bullet at 2,230 fps is awfully close for sure.
Yep.. .401: 200gr at 2135, 250gr running 1870.

401 Win
Case length: 1.50"
C.O.L.: 2.00"
Base dia: 0.429"
Rim dia: 0.457"
Bullet dia: 0.406"

.401 Win, given a dose Geritol and a make over.
Bet the AR cowboys will be beside themselves, not only an AR in 10mm, but a AR 10mm on meth.
Or Viagra.

If a 10mm with a 200 gr bullet at 1,200 fps is good, a 400 Legend with a 215 gr bullet at double that is even more good. It really puts into perspective just how anemic even "hot" handgun cartridges are.

All 3 have different base or rim diameters, which means that each will need a different bolt face.
Kinda like a 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. Pesky straight sided rounds, always making things complicated.

Ian, Oh, I don't know, maybe they can rebate the rim on 357 Mag and set it up in an M-1 Carbine, and rebate the 400 and stick it on a 223 bolt face, then call them the 357 and 400 Ianwulf.

so there is hope of the 450 'slightly longer than the 45 win and about as good as the 454 casull' mag. coming back.

what is this supposed to be shot out of?

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.

I rather doubt anyone will even remember these in decades!

By the length I would say a AR15
The case head is the same as the 6.8 Spc, and length short enough for AR15 magazines. Expect singleshots and boltguns as well for the straightwall states. I'm sort of surprised that a .375 didn't preceed this .400, or maybe Remington will do that on the rimmed platform.

Well, Winchester doesn't make AR's but they're smart and designed it with all the specs that allow for easy and safe adoption to that platform. 0.422 bolt is 6.8 SPC (AR), 2.260" OAL designed for the AR, working pressure of 45,000 psi (for the 6.8 spc ar-15 bolt) and body diameter same as the 6.5 grendel (so a magazine company can easily retrofit an existing AR mag to work.

Winchester is smart, they knew it wouldn't reach success if it couldn't be shot in an AR-15, besides the AR croud tends to shoot MORE ammo than bolt gun guys, so as a boost, they'll sell 20% more ammo since it can be popped into an AR like M&M's.

Well, saw a S&W ad for the new 360 Buck hammer chambering and got to thinking 500 S&W Mag, 460 S&W mag and the 360 BH. They are missing a 40 cal. Interesting to see if they'll use the Wonder Win or another S&W design?

Well, Its more genius another pistol caliber with ZERO rifle projectiles designed for the velocity it can shoot. They did the same thing with the 9x45....

Cant say Im not interested, but...
