7 mm Thor Mould

Kevin ran a pay it forward on several moulds a few days ago.

I was fortunate enough to get one.
I have several 7X57 rifles.
I'll have fun with this one.

I was anxious to cast with the mould.
I wanted to lube and size a few and try varying OAL's and test chambering in my 98' Mauser 7X57mm rifle.
No concerns, smooth as silk.

And for all of you that like to have the gas check inside the neck,
this one will meet those specs.

7mm Thor cast bullet at the range.

My grandson, Trevor and I went to the range this morning.
I fired about 25 rounds of 7X57 with 10.3 grs. of Alliant Unique
a Rem 2 1/2 Large pistol primer and the Thor 7mm cast bullet seated just off of the lands . I'm well pleased with the Thor bullets. MANY THANKS KEVIN ! !
Trevor shot the rifle real well also.

I started off things at 50 yards with two " test rounds ".

A few clicks up on the elevation and I handed the rifle to my grandson.

Looks like his last round flew a bit " high right " but he has 4 fairly tight if you exclude that round.

I thought REALLY hard about his one when Kevin offered up the pair, but I already have an excellent Lyman mould for my old Mauser and figured someone with more 7's could use it more, and sure enough it went to a good home. I bet it's a good one for hunting, after all, that's what Mikey designed it for.

Yes Ian, the big flat meplat would put the UUMMMP on whatever it hits.

After all these years, the 7x57 didn't "make the cut" for my down-sized battery. NOT because its not a wonderful round, but sacrifices and compromises needed to be made. It was brutal.

THAT is the mould I would want if I were shooting cast in the 7x57. It reminds me of the basic profile I have sought for others - sort of like the RDO 311-165, with which I have had so much luck.

The bullet was cast with air cooled wheel weights.
