I was a little surprised when I weighed it, I though it would be closer to 145, but not so.......

I had good performance the one time I hunted with cast in a 7mm and wanted the absolute heaviest thing the rifle would throw. In retrospect, I may have been overly worried about penetration. When I get around to it again, I have one of the discontinued RCBS molds that throws a 168 grain bullet (if I recall) it seems the ones they make now have different dimensions more for modern 7mm rifles. I plan to try the soft nose casting next time.

I bet that Thor bullet would work just fine at woods ranges.

Not to beat a dead horse.
But, bullet placement is so very impt.
With the wide meplat, I think the Thor would most likely do the job.

Yep. I shoot a lot of the "soup can" bullets from the mold Midsuth sold for a while. Good bullet, and the ability to cast six at a time is real nice. I cast them all hard and water quenched, because I didn't think it would make a good hunting bullet, but have been wondering. They weigh about the same as yours but not nearly the meplat.

i use 145gr saeco fn gc in my 7 Mauser. I've never shot a deer with it..........yet!!!!!

i "gave" my 98 mauser with a Fajen Synthethic wood stock, timney trigger and a 20" Douglas lightweight barrel in 7 mauser to my son. i killed deer for years, then he came and got it. i cried..........ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!! the 7x57 mauser is the best cartridge for all game.
