9mm High Power

The Glock is the 3/4 ton pickup of the pistola world. It works fine, takes a beating and keeps on ticking. I never loved one, but I can't say the gun itself ever let me down. The 9mm "FBI sub-sonic loads" OTOH, those failed me a buncha times!

Guns that simply don't fit my hand- Ruger CF autos! Yuck! Always felt like I was trying to hold onto the big end of a baseball bat!

I enjoyed shooting my BHPs that I owned. I still have a couple concealment holsters that fit the BHP, and these holsters stay around because the CZ-75B fits in them perfectly. I suspect that wasn't an accident.

I was fortunate to work in LE during a time of considerable change in doctrine and weaponry that cops were authorized to carry. When I started in 1977, my shop's only selection was D/A revolver that could house the 38 Special +P. It is still authorized, but few carry it as a primary sidearm when 357 Magnum is also allowed.

We went to self-loaders in 1987, and even then the double-action system was required. A Condition 1/cocked & locked carry mode scares the uninitiated & unskilled users and bystanders something fierce. My own view parallels that of the late LTC Jeff Cooper (a great believer and proponent of the 1911A1 x 45 ACP system)--that D/A automatics are an ingenious solution in search of a problem to address.

Be that as it may, I learned/absorbed and taught D/A-to-S/A transition shooting to lots and lots of our deputies, because "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". These days, it's Glocks or the CZ-75B carried Condition 1. A BHP with actual Euro-level 9mm ammunition is no joke, and I would be happy carrying one. I should have gotten one of the BHPs that came in 40 S&W, But I have enough 40s laying around already, and a couple 10mms.

We brought on the Glock system in 1994. Late to the party, but everyone sees you arrive. It worked for Nancy Reagan. Glocks are an acquired taste, but they are affordable, reliable, seldom break, there are zillions of factory-trainers armorers out there to work on them, but they are aesthetically-challenged........'lacking in elegance' is expressing it gently. Striker-fired systems seem to be The Latest Rage, so we had better get used to having them in our midst. Still, the BHP is an elegant well-proportioned pistol made of actual ordnance steel (instead of plastic). That alone recommends it.
