9mm Parabellum

that's what they charge for Corn down to the Broulim's this time of year too.

it's kind of funny how many rounds of 9mm i have loaded downstairs for someone that sort of makes almost as much fun of the round as i do the 40 short and weak.
98% of it probably would bounce off a thick tee shirt.
but then again i don't have to go looking for my brass, it's laying about 16-18"s away in a neat little pile.

@dannyd - That's about what I come up with. The average Joe isn't going to invest in several hundred $ of reloading and casting equipment and the time it takes to reload to save $7/box for an infrequently engaged in hobby.

By the way, I also reload 9mm but not for any perceived cost saving on bulk practice ammo.
It's my only hobby for the last 35 years, so it's definitely not about cost saving. If it was about the money I would have quit years ago and saved thousands of dollars.

I just run the numbers because I can. I track everything I do.

People are strange about the price of components because the same people will pay these outrageous prices for travel (gas or lodging) without any thought at all.

I am not traveling any further than the gun range until gas get back to 1972 price's. :)

When handloading the "savings" loading 9 vs better defensive calibers, is a marginal savings at best. Esp with our own cast bullets.

when primers were like 2.0-2.5 cents each, and a jug of bulls-eye was like 100 bucks you could load 9mm for the price of 22L.R.,,,, or less.

i done a run of 12-K plus 9's a couple of years back simply because i had all the junk sitting here taking up room.

I loaded a bunch up during covid myself. "Ammo to Go" had 9mm 115 projectiles in 2K boxes for $200 per. Got 10000 total. have a few 9mm Smg's and ammo was really expensive and hard to find at that time. Had plenty of brass, powder and primers already.

I am not fond of the 9mm Luger. The last gun I bought is chambered in it. I started this reloading with .38 spec. Followed by .357,followed by .44mag. followed by .270 Win. followed by .223 followed by .40 S&W. and I'm not sure what else ,maybe 45/70. At any rate had I chosen to start at 9mm all this might have ended before it ever got off the ground. Those itty bitty cases and boolets don't work with my 80 yr old fingers, not to mention the "pop gun" I'm trying to shoot e'm in has a short chamber. So load 'em light and seat 'emdeep. (Taurus G3 C by the way)

Well, thank you for being honest. Please don't condemn the cartridge based on a less than ideal gun.

Taurus G3 had one of those as a starter self defence carry pistol. "Improved"Copy of a Beretta. Beretta did it better IMO.

Up graded to a Ruger LCP. IMO. Still carry that with some ARX ammo.

Meh 9mm....
I Just pick up the brass off the ground. Wipe off, Deprime. Cram whatever pistol primer in there. Shove it mostly full of Estate Sale Red Dot.
Compress it down with a 125 grain lead round nose bullet. Powder coated, aloxed , whatever. Till it stops popping back out. Then crimp just enough to hold it all together.
Go blow off 100 rounds at 25 yards or shorter. At my current favorite target. As fast as I can.
Pick up the brass, dig the lead out of the bank and start over again.
Good Times.
But all facetiousness aside.
I do have a soft spot for the 9mm short.

I shoot a good bit of 9mm. Mostly factory ammo. Its a really good cartridge to have survived this long. Reload for 147 subsonic. Below picture is a transferable Uzi. Lot of fun to shoot and is accurate too. Don't shoot cast bullets out of it. Sorry. Anyone here shoot subguns?

In the late 1980s I carried a S&W Model 459 in 9mm at work. In those days our coin of the realm was the Winchester Silvertip 115 grain STHP. I still think these are decent loads--from the 459 they clocked 1200-1225 FPS. Stats like those will do the ride the river with, especially during that time of my career when I worked solo in plainclothes almost exclusively in shagnasty places.

Like in many venues, the FBI's condemnation of the Winchester 9mm Silvertip round was smoke & mirrors. It's real abomination was the touting of their excreble Sub-Sonic 147 grain round in its place. Enough said, I've hacked at you all about this 16 dozen times previously.

In my sitch, thank goodness that at the same time my shop 'Went Sub-Sonic' they added another 'Sub-Sonic' round that worked......the 40 S&W. At work, I went 40 S&W and never looked back. The 9mm was relegated to off-duty and varmint hunting roles, since my SIG P-226 is such a tack-driver. Now in retirement my ammo choices (and calibers) are much less limited, so when the 9mm gets carried as goblin dissuader its magazine is stoked with REAL 9mm rounds these days.

I have never even fired a single round of 9mm in my entire lifetime.
Hard to believe, isn't it?

Don't have anything against it per se; it just doesn't float my boat.
Now, if a 9mm gun fell into my lap, I would happily buy factory ammo and shoot it.
But I can't see myself going out and purchasing one.
And the last thing I need at this stage of my life is to tool up to reload for yet another caliber.
Hence the factory ammo clause above.

I like the 45 ACP very much. The 9 mm is pretty good too.

I have never fired a 40 of any type- not even a 10mm. Doesn’t bother me at all.
