An old case

The 30-03 (.30 caliber model of 1903) was used by Winchester on early 1895 rifles as .30 Government. When they started with 30/06 it was 30 US, I believe.

I think I have a couple 30-03 in my collection somewhere.

I'd have to go back through a dozen old books or articles from the 1890's through 1910's. If you're happy, good enough.

I sorted out the rifle brass from the bucket of junk which as it turns out was probably stacked trays of mostly sorted small lots . Anyway lots of old brass in assorted 06' formed 7×57 and one lonely 8×57 .

UUUmmmm , maybe the case isn't as old as I 1st thought it was.

I still use some old REM-UMC cases I bought in the early 1960s. Not sure when Remington quit loading 44 S&W Russian, but these cases were old in 1963.

The best way to date those is going through old Gun Digests and they were several years behind.
