Any Loverin Lovers Out There ?

I have several Loverin moulds.
Today I cast with a two cavity Lyman .30 cal. mould ( 311467 ).
Yrs. ago, I sent it to Erik for HP work.
I have about 6 or 7 HP pins, one of which is a flat point.
The flat point offers any impressive meplat for a .30 cal. cast bullet.
A very accurate .30 cal. cast bullet for me in a variety of .30 cal. rifles.

One of the 2 cavities is a plain base ( I had Erik remove the g/c shank in one of the cavities ).

A couple for-certain Loverin designs on hand here--Lymans #245496 and #266469. Not sure if #225438 is a Loverin per se, but it and an NEI 22-55 spire point I have sent off are/were Loverin-esque. I know Rick Tunell (AKA Buckshot) favors Loverin designs and has a couple of the 30 caliber examples IIRC.

That flatpoint version seems like just the ticket for a 30/30 WCF.

225438 a Loverin design? I never thought of it as such. Two lube grooves . . .

If one is looking for a bullet with a LOT of bore contact.
This one has to be it.

There's only so much room for lube grooves on the little bitty #225438--he did the best he could. :)

Just toured the old NEI site and it shows my now-departed 22-55 mold design as their #4.

Can't say much because I haven't any! Looks real good to me however! Sure my 8 mm 's would shoot well with such

Here are my Loverin Plain Base 8 mm's ( NOE 326407 , mine is a 2 cavity, one g/c , one plain base ) :

These Loverin , plain base, 8 mm's are sized .326, Have Ben's Red in the grooves, then rolled in BLL :

This Loverin should handle anything on 2 legs or 4 legs from my Scout Rifle :

Can any of you tell that that I'm a big Loverin fan by now ?

I have to seat them such that the lube grooves ( that you see above that are filled with Ben's Red ) are inside the neck of an 8X57mm case for them to close in my particular rifle.

My 308 has a SAMMI throat, but it still seems short for a bullet like that. My 35 Whelen has a VERY short throat and I would have every lube groove inside the neck!

Got the 311407 mod,old Ideal 466,NOE 466,old ideal 407 and a beautiful 4 gang ideal 467 whew!
These were really made for long neck cartidges like the 30-30 and they shine in that caliber, but unlike Ben I have not been really happy with their performance in any of my 03's, two or four grouve.
Nothing close to the 315.

Do I love them, yup ,do I use them ,sometimes.
Do I want them to work yup.
Best results I gave gotten is when I size them one tho. More than my other bullets.

I recently acquired this NOE 268-134-FN (Kurtz)
I haven't loaded any yet...heck I haven't even lubed 'em yet,
but I did try to seat a GC, after they cooled off, they slid on kinda hard,
but seating them in a seater plate on the Lyman 45 was easy enough.

Thanks for posting that again Ben.
That is the windmill I a have been chasing ever since you posted it on the other site
a couple of years ago.

I have gotten groups like that At 100 yds w/ my 1917 , Win. 94 full rifle, iron sights and the Ideal 407 w/ RX7

I have managed to get groups like that at 100 yds w/ about every bullet I have tried in my 03's EXCEPT
the Loverins, close but not the 3/4" average, five shot, groups I expect.

BTW I did try your load several time, but no go.

I am right on the edge, but just not there yet.

I will have to say that 20 plus years ago I did get 1" groups with the 407 out of a Remington 1903 I had back then.

Been chasing that one too.

Looking at your notes I maybe sizing them too large (311) for my various 03's.

I will try 310, what the heck.

IMO the 311467 is a slightly better bullet than the 407,
the 466 is a great little bullet, but right now for me the Lee 155's and 160tl are easier to find good loads for.

I would never be without at least one Loverin design.

I find it perplexing that one rifle will shoot a particular load, another totally rejects it.
ODD...................

Notice also that the group above WAS NOT shot with my standard sizing of .311", it was shot with .3095" cast bullets, again a bit of a perplexing twist to the riddle.

None of this is simple, every time I think that I'm beginning to figure this game out, I get slugged in the gut.

Ben I did notice that and going back 20 plus years with my notes I see that the 407 I used in that 03 was sized .310.
I have one Ideal 466 that is marked U ,
Undersized, does cast 310 w/ straight WW.

How much fun would life be if success game instantly?
