Ben's Liquid Lube

Water based would be a disaster I think. It would dry slower, won't mix readily with the Alox, and who knows if the "wax" if a wax or some polymer that could leave residue in the bore.

Ben, wise choice in stocking up.

You guys do understand that this is how we end up with so much "stuff" tucked in every recess of the house?

I'll be back later, I need some light bulbs, and maybe some floor wax. The floors are looking a little scruffy.

Some wanted to take unlubed cast bullets and coat them with Ben's Liquid Lube and fire them at 2400 fps.

Honestly, I never imagined or dreamed that BLL would be subjected to that kind of " torture test ". That was never my dream for the liquid lube.

I shoot 98% of my cast rifle loads in the 1,100 fps - 1,850 fps speed zone with plain base in the 1,100 - 1,350 fps zone and the higher speeds with gas checked cast bullets.

Ben's Red
in conjunction with BLL works wonders in this speed zone with accuracy and ease of cleaning your barrels when you come home from the range. It isn't uncommon for me to take 30-06 and 308 Win. rifle barrels that have had 100 + rounds of cast loads in the 1,600 fps speed range fired through them , push 2 dry patches through the barrel, and put them in my safe. I've never had a problem with rust or corrosion of any kind with the lube in my rifles. I've always felt that the lube had been spun at high rpm into the pores of the metal in the barrels. All I needed to do was clean out any excess lube and carbon that was in the bore before I put the rifles in the safe.

I see Ben's Liquid Lube as a quick and super simple liquid lube to make ( without heat or danger of fire ). It works wonders in handguns in the 700 - 1,200 fps. speed range. It also works very well as an " over - coat " over other lubes with rifle cast bullets. In this arena, the nose of many of my " nose riders " gets some needed lubrication also.

I don't know it this counts, but I killed a pretty decent Russian boar tonight with some bullets coated in BLL. Remember me asking about coating the noses to help feeding issues? I tried it out, more as a sizing lubricant than anything, tumbled some 311679 bullets "as cast", sized to .3095", checked and lubed the groove and space above the gas check with SL-68.1, and shot them at pretty close to 2200 fps out of my M1A this morning, getting solid 2.5" groups at 100 yards. Got excited and took it instead of my normal piggie-getter on the hunt I had planned tonight, now there's a heap of pork aging in the cooler.

I'm looking at BLL as a potential lube for a friend who hunts with a 300BO and a suppressor. He wants to use plain base 247 gr subsonic loads with the can, and doesnt want lube purging into the can, but he can't stand using plain liquid alox. This could be what he's looking for. He's experimenting with powder coating right now, but has a busy, hectic life and PC is rather time intensive, at least the way he does it.

He should try BLL. In my little experience with it, it doesn't shoot "dry", the coating does melt and leave a little film on things, but I don't think it will load up a suppressor like conventional lube will.

This looks like it might work for subsonic loads in a can! I am going to fill out the paperwork for a 45 pistol can tomarrow. It will be user serversable and much easier to see what's going on. It should also handle my 300blk subsonic loads so I can test them through it before running them through the thunderbeast! In 9-12 months I should have a report!
Fyi I'm "The friend" 358156hp was refering to.

He has friends? Scary.
I ned to get the old guy out to shoot some day. ENGC isn't that far away for him.

Are you the one looking to make lube? If so, you are in a good place to,learn about doing that.

That's me I read most of not all of the posts I just rarely post. My grammar and spelling are atrocious and to make matters worse I only have my phone as a means to the Internet!

If you have quesrion please ask. It isn't rocket science but sometime details do matter.
BLL should be a very good 45 ACP lube.

And you had to use that particular gun as an avatar. Honestly, I don't how you can post at all when you only have the phone to use. You're a better man than I am...

We already went over that. Doc gave it to Harry, to give to me. Bring it over and I'll take really good pics for you. It may take me a while to get it done.... and bring plenty of ammo so I can take pics of that too.

Trust me!

For everyone else's benefit the revolver is a 445 supermag built on a 357 max frame. It has a Dan Wesson style barrel. With a 357 barrel. The second cylinder is 357-445. "A bigger Bain and Davis" the barrels are octagonal and the barrel nut times flush on the end is octagonal as well and has a break in it. The grips are ivory.

Wow. What an awesome bit of work.
What kind of loads and velocities do you use in the 357-445 case?
