I put one of those single shot followers in my heavy .30-06 bench rifle I bought solely to shoot cast bullets in at 100 yards and I like it a lot. I have not had that "forcing the claw extractor over the rim" that Petrol and Powder describeschambers very easily for me, not sure where he's getting that from. Works like a champ for me.

If the cartridge rim slides behind the extractor from the bottom (like it should) then great. But with those single round followers that is not always the case. The cartridge often ends up being pushed in front of the extractor until the it bottoms out in the chamber and the extractor is forced to snap over the rim.
Those single round followers provide a nice slick shelf for the cartridge to lay on and with some bullet profiles they may help with single loading but with some bullet profiles and cartridges, they don't work as well as feeding from the magazine.

I , like wise, have watched closely as the case rim slides under the claw extractor as the round is chambered. Works smooth as silk.

Not Mauser by brand, but at it's heart, the CZ 527 is a diminutive gem which pulls this off well. I actually have a video on my phone of it feeding empty 222 cases. Its very gentle on the noses of my cast bullets, because most of which never touch anything from magazine until they just kiss the rifling.
