Yeah. I have broken an amazing number of bones over the years and have become somewhat of
and expert on the topic, unfortunately. I asked my orthopedic surgeon, after he had spent a good
bit of time pinning and screwing the upper end of my femur on back in '99 --- "Gee, doc, I have had
so many broken bones (he had been fixing them since '81, so had a partial list) over the years, are
my bones weak or brittle or something?" He literally laughed out loud. "No, I can absolutely verify
that your bones are stronger than average after spending a lot of time drilling holes and putting in
screws. Not weak! Hard as heck! A pain to drill." Well then why do I seem to break so many? Doc laughed
out loud (literally), and said "These are all very high energy events! You do too much wild stuff, I would say."
"Oh".
So - it will be amazingly weak for a while. Did he give you any workout bands? Don't know if you
sell them at work, but a LIGHT bunge or rubber sheet wrapped around a doorknob and do horizonatal
exercises to start to build it back up. If you had been down for full 6 wks it would be much worse, but
if you work at it, it will come back in about 1-2 wks, but it does take work.
Overall, breaking bones sucks.
Been there, done that, got the scars and T-shirts, both.
