Now that California is no longer a "may issue" state that should change. However, even with a sheriff who, for eight years, has issued carry permits like my wife hands out Halloween candy, my county's population of 439,000, and an area 1 1/2 times the size of Delaware, has fewer than 4700 licensees. I am not holding my breath that fewer California citizens will continue to be potential victims.
It will be interesting to watch how things change. Several states will have to adjust their laws
For those of us that were around and paying attention, Florida became a "Shall Issue" state in 1987 and there was an outcry that it would be a blood bath. Of course that didn't happen but the critics didn't admit they were wrong. I think we will see a decrease in crime but there will be little acknowledgement of that.

The local Police and media still do a very good job of covering up how bad things are really getting around here. There's been a big upsurge in refugees around here, and many of them are still living the only life they know. Not just overseas refugees, we're getting them from both coasts, and a number of (ahem) uh... strongholds of dissenting values who appear to be working towards changing our local demographics.

All I know is that every place that offers drive through coffee has a ten car line every business morning. You want coffee? Learn to make your own. And our homeless population is skyrocketing.

What they're ordering is NOT coffee!
It's some concoction of sugars and vegetable extracts that purports to have coffee as one of the ingredients...

Midway has/had the 6 banger 230 tc on sale not too long ago. I still need to get casting with it. I've used a metric ton of 200gr swc, and a handful of 452423 to good effect in a USP. My question is... why the draw to heavier than norm chunks of lead in a 45?? Competition? Bowling pin? Fun?
fun

I've used a 454190 in a Gov model and a Commander and a 260 gr commercial SWC and the 454190 in my M25. Didn't hurt anything but I don't feel like I gained anything either. At the time I was shooting at informal bowling pin shoots and thought a heavier bullet would knock off the pins better. Nope. The gain in mass was offset by the loss in velocity using safe pressure loads. A 230gr truncated cone did best, but a 200gr SWC did just as well. But it was fun for a while.

Even then I never treated my .45ACP guns as anything other than .45ACP guns. If I needed more power I had a Super Blackhawk then and several .41 and .44 mag guns now, no need to hot rod my .45s.

Have fun, nothing wrong with sensible experimentation, just sharing my experiences. YMMV

I very much like your A45-246H, but I only load 5.0 grains of 231 as that is all I can control in a 1911 frame. A heavy hitter most certainly.

Been from 185's to 300 grainers in 45s. My old guns have limits on pressure, so I go with what they were designed for, and go to a bigger gun for more power. FWIW
.45 Colt, that's my favorite caliber followed by the .45 ACP. I've got several .45 Colt revolvers in all levels of pressure including a Colt Anaconda and Ruger Blackhawk.

Shooting 6.5 grains Unique with the H&G 200 grain wadcutter for Level One, 8.0 grains Unique with either the RCBS 45-230-RN Cowboy or the SAECO 954 235 grain for the Level Two and Three.

Like Ric, when I want a heavier caliber, I go to the .44 Magnum.

I have the three 45 ACPs now, and love them all. Now that the weather is moderating, I can wear clothing that enables discreet carry of larger felon repellers. The SIG-Sauer P-220 or the S&W Model 625 x 4" get carted around starting ~Halloween. I have come to genuinely love that wheelgun. The Gold Cup's Elliason sight is kinda delicate for carry, so it mostly does range stuff these days. That IS what it was made to do, after all.

Another cool-weather option is the CZ-75B in 40 S&W. In the age of the striker-fired pistol, I remain wedded to the hammer pistol while the Grocks are the debutante my nephews might date. Mind you, my G-23 is one heck of a CC pistol, and the G-43 fed serious Euro-level 9 x 19 ammo is a fine micro blaster (fun to shoot, too!) that would rout goblins pretty well.

I know I dwell on defensive shooting more than a lot of posters do. Heck yes, I'm biased. When I retired in June 2005 I figured I could tone down the hyper-vigilance a bit and chill out some.

Not exactly. I have had 3 scenarios since retirement that demonstrated the continuing need for public discreet carry. 2 were in back-country situations, the most recent (Feb. 2019) in downtown Redlands at 7:30 P.M. I have zero doubt Marie and I would have been injured severely had I not convinced that BIG goblin that his sorry a-- was getting a toe tag and county autopsy. I am ALWAYS carrying when out in public--lax courts and woke Legislatures create Carjacker Theme Parks, and low percentages of citizen CCW exacerbate that condition.

I know I dwell on defensive shooting more than a lot of posters do.

In my younger days I shot handguns for fun. It was fun competing, hunting, and playing with handguns. Then I HAD to use one and killed a man. In that moment all the fun went out of shooting handguns. I carry daily when out of my house. I practice both live and dry fire.......but the handgun is a tool of self-defense now. There is no joy. I appreciate and understand your dwelling on defensive shooting CZ93x62.

I am thankful that it didn't carry over to long guns. I truly enjoy shooting and hunting. It is odd the curves that life throws at you.

This has been an inspiration for me . I have bunches of 45 ACP and AR brass . The H&G 130 has run 550 in 4 runs . The 454424 HP picked up here has run 80 w/78 keepers. The NOE version at 250 runs fine in a Highpoint carbine , it's a garbage disposal though .

Speer #12 has data for a 260 . The HP is 245 gr .
