I cast bullets because 45 Colts jumped from $16 to $38/50 and I didn't get the results I had hoped for from dime a pop commercial cast and jacketed was over $30/100 . Tye 45 Colts alone have very likely all but paid for all of the others .

Went to a pawn shop nearby that dabbles in a bit of reloading stuff and sometimes has used stuff (couple of Herter's presses I want to go make a deal on). Had some lead ingots from a Lyman ingot mold with a price tag of seven bucks apiece. I don't need lead so didn't bother to ask, but I suspect it's just wheel weights or pure. I think that stuff will sit there a long time, but I may be surprised.

I can put in the work to dig a lot of range salvage or make the hunt for tire shops that will still give me wheel weights for seven bucks a pound.

I get tin for free nowadays and have a lot of it. I made a big linotype purchase a couple of years ago and have quite a bit of range salvage still to be rendered down. Pretty sure I'm set til the dirt nap.

Free is good! However, if I'm going to plunk down real money, it will be for verified known alloys from Roto Metals.

My favorite;
You'll never save any money reloading.
You won't in 223&9 . Shoot 10 boxes of 32 Rem, 264 WM , 45-70, and 45 Colts and let me know how it's working out.

It still works out even with 6$/100 for 255s to about 15/100 that's cheap when everything I've seen on the shelf of late is 29-35/box and there aren't any of the above. Back in 18' it cost about $130/100 with premium coppers vs $48/20 for FC blue box hyshoks .

i see you shooting the 32 Rem, 264WM, 45-70 and 45 Colt and then i'll raise you the 30Rem, 30 Herrett, 357 Herrett, 9.3x57 and the 500 Linebaugh. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

i don't know what cost is now, i started rolling my my own when the cost of cartridges went up $2-3. the 30-30 was $8 and then overnite $10. the '06 went from from $10 to $13. then i went to the reloading game. i didn't start to reload cast boolits about 10 +/- years ago. i'm the cast boolits FNG.:rofl::eek:

I don't want to get into the 8×57 J groove and throat in the 7.7×58 or needing .272 in a 6.5×50SR , but they live around here too.

I'll raise you 45 Schofield.
