In the hospital

Got in a bad argument with the hospital today. They will not get the right insulin I take. It is u-500 . Instead they say the will modify the dosage to he same. Has not worked at al. Sugars ate over 450 and not budging. Told them I would have my old lady bring mine up and they can give it to me. But they said no. The main nurse she's been asking the same ? As he said every hospital that has worked in has carried it.

Adding this pettiness to this situation is not needed or helping. I want to say thanks again your words are working.

I have recently had the same problem. Ambulance took me to hospital with a kidney stone which I passed in six hours but they keep me for four more days because my blood sugar and heart rate was above normal. I have these under control but they would not give me the right meds. I finally just left against doctors orders as I was getting sicker and sicker because the hospitalist would not listen to me. Hang in their friend, you will be OK and I am sorry you have to fight for proper care.

Was out of town and out of internet connections and returned to see this. Hang tough Tommy. My prayers are with you and your family.

One would hope so. But then a lot of patients don't know anything about their conditions and don't want to know. Or what they know is flat out wrong. What's a doctor supposed to do then? Do what the patient wants and violate their code of ethics, or do what is medically correct and piss off an un/misinformed patient?

Tom I do not know you other than reading here your postings God bless you.
All I can add is you have to be your own advocate as others here have said and I know its hard when you do not fell well.
But with family and god let them know your concerns and be firm.
Wish you well and recover soon.

Tomme shared his opinion (which was quite welcome!) in another thread I posted. I'm hoping that's a good sign, that he's feeling better! GREAT!

The doctors can take the time to listen, explain and communicate. I spent four days in the hospital and only saw the "hospitalist" for less than two minutes on one occasion. The rest of the time, I could only talk with nurses who had not authority over my treatment. Sick people, informed or misinformed want their concerns heard and not be treated like a slab of meat in a bed.

Feeling good today. Had a mishap when I had a muscle spasm in my back. I knocked over a full can of soda all over the wire connections. It shorted out the o2 sensor and wiring. And maybe the input circuit. After not listening to me about what happened and them going through 5 sensors and wire leads they said look it is working. The o2 was measuring 75. Before this it was 96 . So my old lady called the case worker at home and explained what was going on. Within 15 min they had a tech come in and hooked me up to all wireless and now Everything's fine.

The Dr told me I might be able to get out of the CCU unit if things keep going the same on Monday.
