Just in case, you're about to order from MidWay

I cashed out about 25 Lyman, RCBS, and other common moulds on ebay, all bread and butter varieties for the most part. I caught the panic at its peak for once, and I was on the right side of the fence. Used two cavity moulds averaged $125.00 to $150.00+. Now used moulds are averaging $100.00, still double the pre-panic pricing for a used one. I kept all of my less common stuff, including all of the HP & HB moulds. My average starting price was around $50.00. People really wanted moulds, most of them will likely be resold at a loss in about a year.

It appears that some of the best companies we know are taking advantage of the situation in this country...both "Covid" and The consumer "gun grab"

Ben posted this at 11:45 am. Midway is completely out of the mould he linked to, and there's only a small handful of other new Lymans left available as of 3:45 Central Time. It ain't over by a long shot.

That was pretty much what Lyman was selling for everywhere about a year ago. RCBS is even higher still.

The fact that they showed up and were being offered for sale is a positive sign.

It shouldn't be surprising they sold out quickly, particularly with Ben helping advertise for Midway... ;) (just kidding Ben)

Production will catch up (eventually) and the demand will cool off.

This is nothing new in history. Having lived through shortages of ALL types, I know this shortage will end like all others.

A year ago, toilet paper was a rare commodity (a shortage caused by one of the most bizarre, irrational panics in all of history), Eventually people realized that toilet paper would be on the shelf when they went to the store and the panic buying went away.

The same thing will happen with firearms related products. When consumers feel like the products they seek will be available, they will stop buying every example of that product they see and at any price.

It is sort of like a run on the bank. When people feel like they can get their money out at anytime they want - they don't care. But if there's some fear that they can't get their money - everyone wants it and they all want it now.

Midway is now selling their bricks of primers (when they have them) for 75 bucks. With shipping, hazmat and tax that's $107 to your door. Only allowed to buy 1k per order. Larry has lost his mind. Feels dishonest to me for such a top tier outlet to be hiking prices like that. Talking with local shop owners, the price hike at Midway far out reaches any higher cost from the manufacturer.

I'm done shopping at Midway. Those are some "cheaper than dirt" type price hikes as seen during the last ammo panic.

Like Gary recently experienced, one evening I had some stuff in my Midway shopping cart, went to check out the next morning and the price had increased substantially. I deleted all the stuff and will not buy from Larry till he stops his price gouging*.

I know how capitalism works -- no lectures, please -- but I don't and won't abide blatant price gougers nor outright greediness.

*Midsouth had the same item for $30 less.

It’s all a case of supply and demand. The less they supply the more they demand.

I noticed last night that not only were there molds available, albeit at crazy new prices, but cheaper 30cal and 22cal bullets also. Good sign that things are slowly going back to a new normal.

Hard to believe but in December 2019 Midway was selling their AR15 uppers, with BCG, for $199.

Crazy coincidence, but on topic here...(new bullet casters and molds)
In the last two days, I have sold some garage items (via FB marketplace) from my decluttering project.
Three items this morning, and two of the buyers were bullet casters, new to the hobby and when we got to talking, they asked me where I buy my bullet molds.

I thought they had been 96 bucks for a couple years. Or has my memory gone crazy.

I bought one of the 457-193 while I could get one yesterday, because all of the one on eBay have went for 125-175 used. So I said screw it, I’ll wait till I can catch one. And just happened to check yesterday and grabbed one.

I have 6 Lyman 4 cavity molds sitting in a sealed ammo can. I prefer the 6 cavity lee molds as they are much lighter.
One of the molds is in its original box. $16.95 is on the top of the box. Guess what decade that I bought it.

Big bore moulds = big money right now, and 9mm moulds of course. 458 moulds are really hot, I think all the spare 457122 Lymans in the country all have new homes now. Other hollowpoint moulds are settling down now from highs of around $175.00- $200.00 for single-cavity Ideals & Lymans in handgun calibers. I just bought a factory 60's era 358429HP for about $90.00 the other day to go with my 358439HP. Three weeks ago it would have sold for about $150.00.

There are two guys selling off Bob Haleys moulds from his estate sale. The really cool stuff is long gone, and there's mostly plain vanilla stuff left, or the really uncommon stuff that the average guy can't use at really high prices. Four cavity Lymans at around $125.00- to $150.00 depending on caliber. H&G moulds are doing really well, my 4 cavity H&G 68BB went for $270.00 three weeks ago, but are now back in the $150.00 range. The sellers are trying to keep the prices high, but it isn't working well. MP Molds are still going fantastically high. When selling on ebay, expect high auction fees! Between the auction and Paypal fees I paid an average of over 25% in fees alone. That was painful!

The good news is that I never listed any of my oddball accumulation, I refuse to call them a collection, that would imply that I knew what I was doing when I bought them, of Ideal single-cavity moulds, any of the hollowpoint or hollowbase moulds (that was tough, with the prices they brought), or any of my Lyman 4 cavities that don't have sticky cavitys (both of them).

I remember going into a gun shop in Birmingham, AL in the early 60's.
The owner was an older gentleman . He said he was getting out of the mould business. He had a display case full of single cav. Lyman rifle moulds.
He had almost all the designs.
They were $9.00 each.
BTW, I bought several.
