You don't find too many who are critical of this design.
This one is an " Oldie ".
Keith’s 358429 showed up in Lyman’s 1932 Ideal Handbook No. 30

They are one heck of a bullet design.

That one isn't a heretic, either--3 bands of equal length and square-bottom grease groove that would hold enough sheep tallow to fry trout with. That one follows the Gospel according to St. Elmer completely.

The tool is in remarkably good condition, too--it almost looks new.

If a fella could only have ONE 357 bullet, he'd be hard pressed to do better than THAT one. In an age when it's gotta be new to be any good, bullets like that just keep proving people wrong. I finally ordered a 4C version of its 44 caliber twin and maybe should do the same for the 35s.

A true classic.

Great design but I have to crimp over the front band, if I use the crimp groove the nose sticks out the front of my GP100 cylinder. Not a problem in my Blackhawk, I can seat the bullet out all the way, so I use a 358156. a 358477 or other 150-160 gr SWC in my GP100 loads. I also use it in .38 loads for my M10.

My experience with that bullets so far is if a gun won’t shoot it there is something wrong with the gun.
Only issue I have had has been like Keith some cylinders are just a little to short.
Even if you crimp over the front band they still seem to shoot great.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Always struck me as odd that something like the Keith will stick out too far on the M28 but fit fine in the 19.

I like it in my 38 spec loads but it is too long for my 357if you crimp it in the grove. So I just use it for 38's
Remember, it was designed for use in the .38 Special, before the .357 Magnum came along.

My Lyman double cavity #358429 throws a bullet with the front band measuring .356" ish, while the other bands are .358" (COWW + 2% Sn).
Anybody else experienced this?

Yes, I've seen that before.
Most likely Lyman got tired of phone calls telling them the bullets wouldn't seat properly in tight spec. cylinders. So they changed the specs of the front band to alleviate the problem.

I have a 4 cav. Lyman 358477, all bands are full
diameter ( the way Keith wanted it ).

This is only bullet that gets shot in my 357,s.crimp groove seated, they fit fine in my blackhawk, and 586 smith, they wont feed this way,in my 1894 marlin,so i crimp into top groove with it,feeds fine that way.
13.0 2400,with this bullet, shoots very good,in every gun ive ever tried!

Fits OK in the L-frames too. It took S&W until 1980 to get the "357 Magnum" correct. I've never seen a Model 520--does it have the same short cylinder of the other N-frame 357s?"
