I don't care for the sharply curved and pointy buttplate on the short rifle, but I do rather like the contour of the one on the carbine. I have one in .45 colt and feed it the same <30,000 CUP load as my New Model Blackhawk. It's an absolute joy to shoot. No need for any sort of pad.

I have a Browning 92 in .44 Mag. Quite the thumper, fortunately, normal butt shape. I just wish
it would accept 429421s and feed them. :(:(

No hacks. If Marlin would make a rifle that looked like this I would be even happier!
The 24" barrel and shotgun butt are big sellers for me.
I would likely lean towards a 44 mag but the 357 isn't a bad choice either. No 45 Colt, my current Marlin 1894 CB has the 24" barrel and shotgun butt and shoots very well.
The Winchesters are a lot more money than a Marlin but the finish is a heck of a lot nice too.

Yep, no 45.
I have a Marlin CB with 24" barrel in 45 Colt. It easily feeds my preferred bullet which has a nose likely too long for a Winchester.
I do have Marlins in 44 mag and 357 but they each have flaws.
The 44 mag is a nightmare to find good loads for ranges beyond 50 yards.
The 357 has a short 19" barrel and no throat. It just doesn't feel right to me and is very picky about bullets.
I'm looking to replace a problem levergun and the Marlin 45 Colt isn't a problem in any sense of the word. That rifle is a real gem.

The Winchester 44 mag has a 1-26" twist. Not as fast as I mag like but far better than the 1-38" of the Marlin. Should be far better with 250-275 gr bullets. Certainly can't have any fatter a bore either.

Light enough rifle it can get a little hairy over time. My Marlin 45 Colt will push a 265 gr bullet to 1500 and the rifle might be 6 pounds. It is a bit lively. Putting the rifle out on your arm due to a crescent butt doesn't make it better.

Shotgun butt all the way for me.

My favorite butt plate is the Carbine style...you know not crescent nor shot gun style....

BTW WHAT KIND INSESITIVE PERSON PUTS PICTURES OF INCREDUABLY BEAUTIFUL RIFLES ON A WEB SITE LIKE THIS JUST BEFORE CHRISMASS....?.....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

My drool is freezing...

Some people just lack class?

Then again, is there really a time of year when we don't lust for a pretty rifle? Lever actions just have an appeal that other styles lack.

Maybe you should sell it to me one day so I can make a .30 Badger out of it, w/16" barrel and a threaded muzzle. :D

I have considered a barrel with a nice 24" octagon barrel. Muzzle heavy rifles just hang better when shot offhand.
The barrel has a bad spot in the rifling about 4" down the bore. That doesn't see to make a big difference in grouping but the lack of a throats sure does. Any bullet with a shoulder is going to be lucky to shoot under 6" at 50 yards. The MP 359640 HP does way better that at 100.
That rifle has been one of the toughest to figure out. Once I found a bullet It seems to like I put it on a pretty exclusive diet.

Fill out some paperwork and get tax stamp to make a suppressor. Cut the barrel and magazine back to 18", file a new dovetail for the front sight, put high sights on it, thread the muzzle, and build a nice aluminum can to hang off the front. You can then have a balanced, 24-26" rifle without changing the barrel. :)

many shops take trade in's...

I don't have a problem with a one load gun, but it's sure nice to know those 5 other molds I got are useful too.
