I ended up doing some trading and picked up a Mossberg MVP bolt action rifle currently chambered in .223/5.56. I sent it off to have some custom work done to rechamber/rebarrel the gun to .338 Spectre (yes, I know, it is an odd caliber and not practical for most people). For those of you who don't know, .338 Spectre is just a slightly bigger version of the .300 blk. It is 10mm magnum pistol brass necked down to .338. I have an AR15 chambered in this caliber already and really wanted to do a bolt gun in the same caliber. The ability to use AR15 mags in the bolt gun (especially with this cartridge/caliber) makes the MVP a good candidate as a donor action. The bolt face will need to be opened up a bit, maybe a little work on the feed ramp, etc... The barrel is a rem700 barrel, so it will need to be rethreaded to match the MVP threads and then properly headspaced. I currently shoot 300 gr subsonic bullets and supersonic 200-250ish gr. The bolt gun will allow me to make some really quiet loads with some of the faster pistol powders. I will post some pics when it is done.
