The NOE 460480 gr. RN HP mold arrived today.
Al @ NOE calls this one the 460009.

I bought it used in 99% + condition.
I gave it a good cleaning, put it back together.
Fired up the pot.
Got the mold hot and the HP pins hot.
The bullets drop nice and round at .4615"
Hornady gas checks are a nice " snap - click " fit.
The bullets size out well for me at .4595"

I made an attempt to buy a 500 gr. plain base Lee mold a few weeks ago.
That deal was a FLOP.:mad::mad:
This will probably be the heaviest 45-70 cast bullet ( 467 grs. )
that I'll EVER have any need for. I'm very happy with this one.

Thor would be proud to shoot that one. That's a hammer for sure and a great looking bullet.
Kind of looks like a giant 358009 on steroids.

I know what a 358009 does to a whitetail in a 35 whelen. Looks like yours is just MORE of a good thing. Wow!

That one might not bounce off! That should absolutely hammer those Bama whitetail.

I don't really think that these Bama White-tails are going to like this one too much.

Would be kinda like getting hit with a high speed brick. From both ends of the rifle.

Ben,

If that's an up scaled version of a 358009 and it shoots as well in your 45/70 as the 009 does in my whelen, you will be one happy camper!

So.....a nominal 480 grain design, then? Having a 45/70 in house for just such an occasion, I would be very likely to try things out in either pure lead or 40/1 alloy at 1100 FPS, and see how things turn out. IME, with my #462560 at 1100 FPS things weren't too bad recoil-wise, but boost things past 1450 FPS and the fun diminished apace.
