Small ring Mauser strength question

These 1893/1916 Oviedo actions received gas relief cuts in the bolt and forward reciever ring.
Ive had some LP primers pierce with no drama, but those were cast loads- not high pressure jacketed loads.

A step in the right direction.

The two LARGE holes in the bottom of the bolt and the flange on the bolt shroud on the 98 went a bit further. But, I see modern guns made with much less in the way of directing hot gas away from the shooter in those century-plus year-old rifles.

Todd, the 7x57 barreled action came to me on a combo deal with a 98 K barreled action in 8mm.
The 7mm has a Remington 700 7mm mag barrel reworked into fitting the SR 1916 action by a gunsmith. I only fitted a semi finished stock for it and welded a new bolt handle on.
In my lifetime, I’ve shot three 1916 Oviedo 7mm rifles with their original barrels. The first one shot so badly that it took me 30 years to try another- same thing- so that one became the 30-30 rifle.
Another one became a 6.5x55 with a Swede barrel.
I haven’t done any group shooting with this 7mm yet; only function firing since I finished the stock.
I’m looking forward to seeing what’s what.
