I'm not certain just what the 45 ACP is capable of in the accuracy dept., however , I think I'm about to find out.

I would expect under 2" at 50 yards pretty easily. Probably closer to an inch for 5 at 50 yards.

Bullseye guns, which are built on the 1911 platform, are expected to produce sub-2" 10 shot groups at 50 yards. Seeing as you have a fixed barrel, you should be able to accomplish that with ease.

It left me with the question........ " If I take sighting error out of the equation, just how good can the 45 ACP shoot ? "

I'll be very interested in the answer as well. My 4" Kimber with three-dot tritium sights will keep most of them on a 12x20 silhouette plate at 200 yards just resting my arms on bags.

Ian,

I took a " Lee H & G # 68 Clone " and removed the bevel base.
It shoots well for me.
Many say this one is super accurate in many 45 ACP's.
I now want to try this one in my 45 ACP, T/C Contender.

Yep, that's the one. I cast this H&G clone in my MP mould. Feeds well in a 1911. Should feed well for you.:D

I have met Ben, he strikes me as a guy with enough dexterity to have almost any sane load feed well in the 'Tender.

I do know people where this would be in doubt.

Ben, my 1911 did well with that bullet and 4 gr of Clays.
I use a similar bullet with 4.8 gr of Promo or Red Dot. Does well for me.

We'll see what happens in a few days ? ?

Thanks,

Should just plain be a fun gun to shoot. Would bet it will be a "one ragged holer", per Bret's thread!

Back in the 80s, when my eyes were a whole lot better than now, we had an 18" steel gong at
200 yds. Several of us IPSC shooters were out there for a match, and after shooting on the
other range, one guy decided to try for the 200 yd gong. I knew from reading Elmer how to
hold up the front sight, so started potting at it with my Gold Cup IPSC gun, and ammo, 200
comm H&G 68 clone over 4.8 BE at that point. Within a few shots, with others calling the misses,
started ringing it, and from then on, no sweat getting 4 or 5 hits standing from a mag full.
That pistol and ammo was good for about 5" groups at 50 yds, not from a rest, but back of
hand or wrist against a pole, standing. Might have gained an inch by going prone.

The cartridge is reasonably good, will be interesting to see what Ben comes up with. Ben is
a master of developing loads, so we will probably have a good idea what is the best that
the cartridge can do after he has worked it for a while.

I read the same Elmer, worth a fortune just knowing how he did the sight drop for long shots. If I ever shot further than I do, I'd be laying some brass wire in a couple of my revolver blades. It's really easy with three-dot if you think of the height of the dot as a single graduation to be halved, doubled, etc.

I shot bowling pins on the 100 yd range with my Colt Commander after an IDPA match...I was shooting wad cutters..they were using rifles...I quit after the third consecutive hit ...no sense in pushing it..I had a reputation to keep you understand..'course that was 10+ years ago..

You can do some serious work at pretty long range, once you figure the hold over.

Wish I still had my 50 year old eyes.......

Bill,

As to the " 50 yr. old eyes ".
My only option now to that same problem is this :

Ben, that still works for me, but I used to be able to do some serious open sighted work
and I still miss it. No doubt that you should be able to really find out what the old
JMB cartridge will REALLY do with a rig like that and your reloading and casting skills.

I am converting a few favorite iron sighted rifles to peeps, still can shoot them reasonably
well with a good fiber optic front. Doing what I can, all there is. Getting old is
OK generally, but parts are irritating.
