Testing the .45 Manstopper Today

I fired the .45 Manstopper bullets today.

https://www.artfulbullet.com/index.php?threads/45-manstopper-bullet.7740/

I'm super pleased with the performance.
I shot at 10 yards.
Much farther than I would expect to have to shoot in a defensive situation.
The load was 4.0 Red Dot with 235 gr. Hollow Cavity cast bullet in .45 Auto Rim Cases from my Smith and Wesson Model 625 revolver.

It was easy to keep a cylinder full in a 1" square at 10 yards.
I also fired one round into a large pile of dry sand.
Most impressive performance as far as I am concerned.

Here is the recovered bullet :

My alloy was Clip on WWs and some range scrap. I can't ask for much more out of the design than this :

I didn't do a very good job of cleaning the sand particles from the bullet.
The scale shows it weighing slightly more than it did when I fired it.

Very nice Ben!
Does not appear much would walk away from that one…
Unless you live in the north country in winter. How much penetration will you get through a leather coat, wool vest, flannel shirt, cell phone, four gold chains, two packets of meth and a T-shirt? Penetration is the answer! Shoot them in the summer in a wife beater shirt you are OK, but not in winter.

Ric is right, handgun effectiveness is based on shot placement and penetration. Hollow points are an iffy proposition in handgun bullets. A sharp shoulder SWC or RNFP will penetrate straighter through clothing and pocket contents; given proper weight and velocity. A surprising number of hollow point bullets penetrate well because the hollow point plugs with clothing and never expand. That’s why I like 9mm bullets at 124gr or slightly heavier at +P or better yet +P+ velocities. Kinda makes them act like .357 Magnums………..

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Well, chances are Ben will never have to use a gun in a defensive situation, and if he does I doubt he's going to run into any heavily swaddled Eskimos in the Alabama heat.

I like it Ben. I used to use 32 and 38 HBWC loaded backwards. The 38's looked mean, but the little 32's were great fun out of a Rem #4 Rolling Block in 32 S+W "short" or Long. The HBWC was a good deal longer than a standard 32 S+W case and it looked rather odd. Shot pretty good and was effective on charging rocks and vicious dirt clods! Can't be any too careful with dangerous game like that! ;)

The car jackers and thugs here don't wear all of that.
It is 90 degrees and the humidity is near 90 also.
I could not have said it better. Thanks, Bret

I have to agree on the penetration example as I live in cold country. High temp so far this year is 82*, but last year it stayed about 10* colder on the average. But, for me the wife beater goes on at about 50*, after 70* I'm looking for ice drinks and shade.
But for in home defense where over penetration could be a problem, those wicked hollow points look awesome. 236 grains expanded to over 3/4's of a inch. If that didn't penetrate completely, well that's a lot of push delivered.
I will carry a little 357 with sp 158 grain and 265's in my 44, both with full hot loads for four legged defense, I do have to worry about what's on the other side. But around here switching back and forth isn't happening.

And Ben those look great! Very persuasive. I think they would be just the ticket in my 1950 Smith.

I'm no expert on what it takes to stop a charging dope addict hell for leather to get money for his next fix or whatever, and I hold the educated and experienced opinions of our LEO members in the highest regard, but I've offered an unexpired 3a vest to a few critics before to prove to me how ineffective the bullet is when I shoot them with it at ten feet and so far, no takers.
